We had the good fortune of connecting with Kat Bozek and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kat, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I think I was always drawn to the arts. I am pretty sure my mom put a camera in my hand about the time I could walk. I started drawing at a pretty young age too. I didn’t truly pursue it or really have a passion for it till my early 20s. I got lucky in that my first passion, led me to my second. I have been in love ever since. The challenge of every new photoshoot and location is just so much fun. I have also met and worked with some absolutely amazing people.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think being a creative is the easy part. I think it’s sharing it with the world that becomes difficult. Challenges are necessary to growth and that’s something I keep in mind despite whatever I am facing. I am one that I like to think things will turn out better than I ever imagined. I think being where I am now is a combination of luck and just a love for what I do. I would never have believed a few years ago I would be interviewed for this. I think that’s true for most of my story though. I didn’t really set out to be a photographer and an artist. I just did what I loved to do and became one. My brand Subtly wild came to be when I was really looking to have a name for my business. I think I spent weeks looking over ideas but nothing quite fit. I was looking over all the photos I had taken over the years when it hit me. There was something a little wild in all of them. Subtly Wild was born, and it has now branched out just from photography to cover so much more.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh, there would be so many places, but just to name a few of my favorites. We would have to stop in my favorite coffee place called Froth in Haslet. I know we would also need a sushi pick-me-up, so my favorite is Sushi Doja in Southlake is my current favorite. They have a little patio that’s perfect to enjoy the summer days and catch up. Naturally, we’d have to catch a concert in the stockyards one evening so probably go a little early and explore and shop. Then dinner at Riscky’s or H3 and catch whatever great concert is going on that night.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are lots of people who have helped me along this journey. If not for my mom handing me a camera at such a young age, I would never have had the opportunities I have. A huge inspiration for why I started taking more photos would be the beautiful sunrises at Slash W Ranch. Casey, my manager at the time, encouraged me to apply to shoot part-time for a magazine and it just became a part of my life from there.
