We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Dewberry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emily, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Since the pandemic mental and emotional health has been a buzz topic and something that people are getting more interested in and taking priority in. I have noticed a huge incline in people speaking about alternative wellness practices over the past few years especially holistic healing. Noticing this and having my own struggles with my mental health due to the daily stresses and anxieties of life, I found myself healing and reducing my stress through breathwork, meditation, and energetic healing.

I have had some incredible teachers and mentors that have taught me the incredible modalities that I teach today but I again and again noticed that some of the best teachers were in California, New York, or remote areas of the country. It made me frustrated that these modalities weren’t accessible to someone in the middle of the country, needless to say one of the biggest states of Texas.

Since 2020 many people have moved to Austin but I believe there is a still a lack of practitioners in Dallas that are making these modalities accessible, readily available, and relatable to the everyday person.

This issue lead me to create my platform called The Embody Edit, which is a mental wellness virtual studio and private practice that is passionate about bridging the gap of these traditionally woo woo modalities and bringing them to the relatable mainstream day to day.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
From the outside The Embody Edit is a virtual mental wellness studio that is available on the apple app store. As well as an app, this platform is also a private private where I work with one on one clients, groups, and brands around the DFW area.

I think what really sets me apart from others is that when you think of the modalities that I work with (breathwork, meditation, reiki, tarot, and pilates) you may have a perception of what a person would look, speak, act, perform like. I take pride in making these modalities that may have been reserved for a specific group of people and make them accessible and relatable so that you can truly improve your mental and emotional well-being with just 1-5 minutes a day using any of these modalities. And you don’t have to be in the world of wellness of spirituality to do these things.

Not to bring in religion but a lot of my clients come from a christian background. As well as myself having this background, I love being able to dispel the woo woo and break any stigmas that these modalities have that may have a view of being unacceptable or not welcome. We’re starting to see meditation spoken about more in churches which I love seeing and hearing that these modalities are open to everyone not just one group of people, its all open as long as your an open minded individual who is looking to support their daily life.

Just like healing, I truly believe nothing in life is truly linear. We will always have ups and downs and it’s our job in life to stay in the present moment as much as we possible can. We will never have this moment like this again and the present moment is what dictates our future, otherwise everything is in God’s hand along with our inspired action. I say this to say that there is always challenges and that will never end but in the moments where I’m in the down I allow myself to truly feel the emotions as they come through and continue to bring my support system around me for help.

But if I could share any of my story it would be this, stay open minded, trust God, source, the Universe, whatever you believe in and His greater plan for your life. If your heart is pulling you in a certain direction, trust that nudge because nothing is a coincidence, oh and try a breathwork class because that could change your life like its changed mine.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh I love this question! I always love when friends come in town for the week or weekend.

First, I love sports so if there is a Mavs or Cowboys game we’d have to go. I would pick you up and we would immediately go to Clifton Club, one of my favorite spots for drinks and an early dinner before a night game.

The next day we would wake up, grab coffee or a matcha at foxtrot and walk the Katy Trail, grab lunch at honor bar and take a loop around HPV, definitely stopping at Bandier. Then grabbing Uchi happy hour, a graze board at Fount and Table, or dress up and head over to Catbird downtown. Maybe that night going to a wellness or social event at Le Sol House.

The next day we would pobably go to a workout class like pilates at sculpt house or yoga at blackswan or uptown yoga and a brunch outside on the patio at Chelsea’s Corner and then walk around bishop arts to see what’s all going on!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Myself as a teacher and my platform would not be here today with the guidance and support of so many people. As a former corporate worker, this untraditional route has taken a core support system to trust that this platform is and will continue to have success. First and most of all is my family, I am so blessed and I do not take for granted that I have two parents and a older brother that support all of my crazy ideas and shifts in this life and without them showing up at events, classes, and day to day running of the business I would not be here.

I am grateful for the studios that I have taught at and continue to teach at that let me be creative in how I share these modalities and how I share myself with the community. I also want to thank my mentality coach, Jacq Gould. She is a Chicago based coach but she works virtually with clients and groups of women all over the country. Her guidance and encouragement is what truly allowed me to step into my worth so that I could take the leap of starting my own business.
