We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Vrzak and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emily, how does your business help the community?
In the United States, the cost of adoption can range from $0 to upwards of $70,000, depending on the avenue of adoption. These numbers are often overwhelming to families that are wanting to adopt, but may not have the financial means to do so. However, that’s where our non-profit comes in! Adoptable is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization specializing in fundraising and event planning for families who are actively pursuing adoption. Our main goal is to work alongside adoptive families by spearheading fundraising efforts and working with other charitable organizations to help lighten the financial payload of adoption, in order to unite more children and families in the community and across the globe.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a nonprofit organization, our goal is to help make a positive impact on the community and the world. With our official launch coming up this May, we are most excited to see how many families and children’s lives we change through our nonprofit work. Adoption is something that I am deeply passionate about, and my biggest goal is to help countless families achieve this dream without having to worry about the price tag that often accompanies adoptions.

Professionally speaking, starting a nonprofit was never something that I thought I’d be doing, but when you see a need and you feel called to fill that need, the best choice one can make is to act. Having spent the majority of my adult life as a competitive gymnastics coach and a stay at home mom, I had no clue where to even begin. Getting started was definitely a learning curve and it took A LOT of time and research to learn more about nonprofits & how to get one started. Along the way, I’ve learned that faith really can move mountains. Whenever a shadow of doubt crept into my mind about whether or not I was cut out to start this organization, my faith told me that I was EXACTLY the person called to start Adoptable & that the right people would cross my path in order to make it happen.

The one thing I want people to know about my story, is that if you feel called to something, don’t wait. Jump. Take the chance, follow your heart and lean into your faith to carry you through the unknowns, because you never know what beautiful thing is waiting for you on the other side.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Growing up my entire life in the suburbs of Dallas, I’ve had my fair share of DFW experiences that I enjoy sharing with out-of-town friends and family! But having spent the last eight years in Rockwall, I’d say this big little town has some gems! Brunch at Standard Service (same owners as HG Supply in Dallas) is a MUST! After that, we’re cruising over to the Harbor to spend the day on Lake Ray Hubbard after we’ve rented a pontoon from Chandler’s Landing Marina. Once we’re nice & sunburnt, dinner and shopping in downtown Rockwall is my favorite way to finish the day. The pizza at Zanata’s is to-die-for & there are too many amazing boutiques to count!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When I started down this nonprofit journey a year ago, I had no idea who all would end up being involved in helping me get this thing started. But time after time, the right people just fell into my lap & have played an integral role in helping Adoptable get its feet on the ground. Most importantly, my Board of Directors. The five of them, Lauren, Jordan, Lindsay, Rachel and Jill, have been with me from the beginning & have never hesitated to help me out in whatever way needed. Secondly, my CPA, Mitch who walked me through every step of becoming a registered 501(c)(3) and continues to support this organization through his guidance and wisdom. Last but certainly not least, my family and friends for their continued love & encouragement when I thought I couldn’t fill the shoes I was called to fill.
