Meet Kamesha Chatman | Fitness Coach & Nutritionist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kamesha Chatman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kamesha, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
Well for starters giving up is never an option. Fitness is my priority and my purpose and you should never give up on your purpose. Failure is a part of the process and the fear of failing is created to break you and make you want to give up. You have the choice to keep pushing. You have the choice to remove fear from the process and embrace what is naturally going to happen. If you never fail how do you expect to succeed? If you have never felt failure how will you know what success feels like? What I am saying is embrace the moments where you failed and take note on how you felt in that moment. Use that feeling as motivation to keep pushing until you succeed. NEVER ALLOW YOURSELF TO GIVE UP.
What should our readers know about your business?
Killa Kam Training is more than just Fitness. As a matter of fact the word “Killa” has very little to do with my workout programs, however don’t underestimate this because they are very challenging and will constantly push you to new limits. The word “Killa” is about the mental part of Fitness as in mentally changing the way you approach Fitness by killing the negative thoughts and bad habits that are constantly holding you back and keeping you from achieving your goals. I am able to achieve this by implementing my “Killa Method”. The Killa Method is removing fear from the process so that you can witness your own progress. The method is the most challenging part because first you have to figure out what your clients fears are, what are and what has been holding them back. Then from there you have to coach them on ways to overcome those fears and it’s not easy at all but it’s worth it once you see them grow. But enough about the method let’s get down to business and talk about how did I get to where I am today with my business.
For starters, I never intended to have a career in Fitness. I always wanted to be a Professional Choreographer and Dancer but all of that changed once I became ill. At first it was just physical pain, like everyday that I woke up I was in pain. Doctor’s couldn’t figure out where it was coming from for years and for years I lived at a pain level of 10 on a daily basis but I got used to it. However, because of that pain I had to step away from dancing because it was so painful to do anything. At that moment I was lost because dance was my life, it was my identity and all that I knew. Therefore, because I lost who I was I then became mentally ill to the point where I didn’t recognize myself anymore and I let myself go. I took a look in the mirror and didn’t like the person that I saw and then I remembered something. I took an elective class in college once called “Weight Training”. I remembered how much I enjoyed that class and found my old notebook from that class. As I flipped through the pages I saw all of the amazing feedback from my professor about the workout program that I created and instantly remembered her telling me that I should consider being a Trainer someday. At first I neglected it because I didn’t have the body of a Trainer anymore and not to mention I was constantly in pain. I was sitting at 325lbs and told myself that I am not worthy of being a Trainer because I was too big so I started pushing through the pain and lost 20lbs in 8 weeks. I couldn’t stop there and kept going until I finally got down to 250lbs. Even still I hesitated on getting a certification and starting a business because I haven’t reached my weight goal until my sister reminded me of how smart I am so I went for it. January 16, 2020 I got my first certification as a Personal Trainer and two years later I added 4 more certifications and became an Elite Trainer. Till this day I am still working towards my weight goal while working towards growing my business and it’s tough! However, I refuse to give up on either of those because this is what I was meant to do and I won’t stop until I reach my goals.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I absolutely love Downtown Fort Worth and Uptown Dallas. My bestie loves to eat so I would definitely have to take her to every taco spot because tacos are one of her favorites. Honestly, I would let her choose the activities because the week would be all about her and she deserves nothing but the best, I want her to have the experience that she wants. Fort Worth and Dallas has so much to offer so Ja’Taun get over here and visit and let’s have some fun.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First of all 100% of my success goes to God. He has guided me through so many ups and downs whenever it comes to my career and I would have never come this far if it were not for Him. The next shout out goes to my sister Tenesha and friend Celeste these two incredible ladies never allow me to forget how smart and talented that I am, they are literally my back bone and I don’t know where I would be without them. The next shout out is a heartfelt one because it goes out to every client that I have ever coached. I often doubt myself at times but then they remind me of how great I am, they remind me of my purpose, and most importantly they put their goals in my hands and trust that I will help them reach those goals. Everything that I do is for them. Lastly I can’t forget about the many friends and family who have supported me along the way and believe in me. Thank you all so much, your support means everything to me.
