Meet Aubrey Sandfort | Photographer & Content Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Aubrey Sandfort and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aubrey, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have always had a love for creating & being artistic in any way imaginable. The idea of being in any career field that is not creative never crossed my mind growing up. I always knew I would do something I love & turn it into my career. There is so much freedom & creative release in being a photographer. I love that I can choose exactly how I run everything. There is also nothing better than doing what I love and sharing that with a community of people I have developed over the years.
As a photographer who captures a lot of portraits, I find it very important to make the person I am photographing feel confident & good about themselves. I want people to look at the photos I took of them & feel like they really encapsulate who they are as a person. As a young woman, I know a lot of us struggle with self worth. I just try to use my art as a way to help others feel good about themselves.
I also want to inspire other people, specifically young women. I hope that I can show them that no matter what you think is holding you back from achieving your goals, you CAN make it happen. I started doing photography as a career when I was only 16 years old & I have made it so far since then. I want to be a person who encourages others & lifts them up, even when some people make them feel like they can’t make it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a 20 year old female photographer. I focus on creative portrait photography, couple’s photography & photography for coffee shops! I love to capture cinematic photos that feel like stills out of a movie. I have done photos for some local coffee shops & that is one of my favorite things to do. I love coffee and I try to be very involved in the coffee scene. Shooting for shops is one way I can do that! I love taking photos of coffee that are not quite what you would expect, but it still make so much sense. Doing creative portrait photography is also one of my favorite things to do. I just love the whole process, from planning a shoot to editing the photos. My photography style has definitely evolved over the years and it’s still evolving! That’s one thing I love about being an artist. You’re always growing & learning new things! I have definitely had moments where I’ve fallen into the comparison trap, looking at other photographers who I admire and wondering why I can’t be “as good” as them. This mindset has definitely held me back at times. It can be hard to remember that there are no levels showing who’s better than who as an artist. One thing that has helped me grow past the comparison mindset is actually getting to know & working with those photographers that I am comparing myself to! I have had many shoots with other photographers and getting to know these people and learning from them has helped me a lot.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
What a great question!
We would definitely start with coffee (naturally). I would have to stop by Davis Street Espresso if I’m in Dallas, but for Fort Worth, 100% Race Street Coffee or Cherry Coffee. Knowing me, I would probably say “why not all three!”. For lunch you can definitely find us at Zonk Burger on Race Street in Fort Worth. Their vegan food is the best thing I’ve ever tasted and I’m there as often as I possibly can be. We would then take a nice long walk on the trinity trails by the river, making our way up into downtown FW. Now that we are downtown we HAVE to take some photos. I have quite a few favorite spots downtown for some sick portraits. After photos, we will grab a slice of pizza from Picchi Pacchi and walk over to Sundance square where there is live music playing (it’s the best when they are playing jazz). From there, we will just sit down, relax & enjoy the jazz till the day is over.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
As cheesy as it sounds, I am so fortunate to be surrounded by so many people who support me. My number one supporter is without a doubt my husband Joseph. He is constantly encouraging me to follow whatever dream I have. If I come to him with an idea, no matter how big or small, he is immediately going to ask how we can work on achieving it. He helps me with encouragement constantly but he also helps me with a lot of the day to day tasks of running a photography business. He is always so willing to drop what he’s doing to come to a shoot with me, carry my camera equipment, set up a backdrop & so so so much more. I definitely wouldn’t be where I am or have the confidence I have today if it wasn’t for Joseph.
