We had the good fortune of connecting with Mykel Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mykel, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was being natural and showcasing how to wear your natural hair. Feeling great in your natural skin by showing off your true identity. I want to create products that helped define but show off the luscious curls of each kind of texture.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My hairline is my art I get to see art on others with their natural hair and textures. My hairline is natural ingredients and also helps grow the hair. I have had many great reviews and results within the year of launching my brand. I not only have a hair line but have a marketing agency and a background in tech. I got my masters to educate myself on marketing and can now use it to help myself and others grow their businesses. It has not been easy I started my hairline and finished my masters while pregnant with my son but I kept faith and God showed me the way. I learned that not everything will come easy you will have trail and error and that is okay it’s apart of growing your business. I want the world to know that you never give up on what you want to do and that when you do something you make have to believe it in because no one else sees your dream like yourself.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to downtown Dallas. I am a multi- cultural person so I love trying different foods and love a good drink. Some of the places we would eat at and grab some drinks are Lit kitchen, the Henry, Monarch, Fridas Tacos and Beto & Son. The foods are great and the drinks don’t disappoint at these places.

I would definitely take her to some nice dance spots and a comedy show if one was showing that week. Overall it is so much to see and do in Dallas especially when you are visiting.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank my mom for making me embrace my natural she never put anything on my hair as I was growing up. I always had natural hair, not always curly but still my own. I take big pride in my hair now and I love it. I also want to thank my chemist she is amazing and works with me every step of the way to make sure I am happy about my products.
