We had the good fortune of connecting with LaCara Atchison and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LaCara, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
Hi LaCara, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?

Believing in myself and Stepping out on faith! I’ve always been told that I have blessed hands because it was nothing i couldn’t learn and master when it came to being crafty. Having the opportunity to allow my creativeness to take full affect in creating earrings has been an amazing process. It has giving me so much confidence and drive to get better and better at the craft. I believed in my vision and trusted the process and gave God the wheel.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started a business making handmade tassel earrings. I am one who loves fashion and getting all dolled up and I’ve always had jewelry but never had a big variety of earrings. I was talking to a friend of mines one day and mentioned to her I wanted to start making earrings. She had once made them years prior and literally gave me all of the stuff she had to start making them (Thank you Reshundra Stewart). That was the first sign that I was going in the right direction. I’ve always had an eye for style and trends so the creative side came natural. With practice I became very confident in the finished products of the earrings And decided to come up with a name for business. Now we have Tassel•ish which specializes in custom handmade earrings. I am Most proud of how far I’ve came along in such a short period of time and how many people love and support my earring brand. I feel like I got where I am today by taking chances and believing in myself. There is no such thing as I Can’t or It Won’t! I wouldn’t say it was easy but I can say it came natural. What sets me apart is that Tasselish is a handmade earring business that makes every item with love and will absolutely make a statement.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh wow. So for starters Day 1 we would have to do brunch at the Common table. Ones of my favorite brunch spots. Day 2 we would do a little sightseeing. I would show them The At&t stadium where the Dallas cowboys play. We would then head to Fort Worth and check out the water gardens which is a whole vibe of relaxation and then the stockyards. You can’t come Dallas and not go to the stockyards. Day 3 We Would go to a few outlet malls For a little retail therapy. Day 4 I love music so we would check out a live band at maybe the Freeman or Sandaga (S/O to Vibe the Band) My favorite spots to go for live music. Day 5 Xoxo for dinner. Day 6 Whatever my friend wants to do that day. And Day 7 Church and dinner.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout? I would definitely like to shoutout God first. Without him there would be no me! I would also like to Shout Out Mike Marshall. An Amazing musician and just a Stand up guy who is very supportive. He is one one the main reasons I have connected with so many people. Also I would like to shout the amazing Anita Hawkins. I was invited to her birthday party by Mike Marshall earlier in the year and I was amazed by her beauty, style, and elegant demeanor. Once I started making earrings I messaged her and asked could I send I couple pair to see what she thought. Without hesitation she said yes and let me bring them to her because she was heading to to Essence Festival the following day. She loved the earrings and wore them During Essence. She received so many compliments and referred so many people to me. So I’m forever grateful for her giving me a chance and for her support in spreading the word on her earrings.
