We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Jaubert and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jamie, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Andrea and I have been working together for many years. We have both worked for counseling groups, school districts, and on our own. One thing we both knew we needed, with our wellness center, was a work/life balance. I have three children and she has two. We love our roles as parents, wives, friends and family members. Owning a small business can sometimes mean that those roles are compromised. Enjoying and thriving in the other roles in our lives was one of the most important factors in the decisions we made and continue to make with Mindful Journey Counseling and Wellness. When we interview a new counselor or even another professional wanting to sublease, balance is one of the first topics we discuss. In our opinion, it is the only way to truly enjoy our career and not burn out. We also teach our clients the value of balance. Balance changes as our lives change. I think everyone has learned this fact, with COVID-19. Self care is key in the art of balance. We work really hard to listen to our bodies and pay attention to the times we need a break. We both love to travel with family and friends. Anyone who owns a small business knows that it can present challenges when you decide to travel. It never fails that toilet backs up in the office or some small crisis arrises right as one of us pulls out of town. The benefit of having a business partner who understands the need for a break is priceless. All of this is part of balance. Is it easy, no! Is it worth it, ABSOLUTELY!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Andrea and I are very passionate about total body health. We know that counseling is only one part of this process. The mind/body connection is very strong and vital to overall health. Our wellness center works to assist clients with social/emotional health, but we also have other practitioners in office to support mental well being. We have a psychologist, diagnostician, adult and child yoga instructor, esthetician, massage therapist and are working to bring on a psychiatrist. Our counseling team is also very diverse. We have counselors that work with individuals, couples, families, children, teens and adults. We work to connect with counselors of diverse specialties and backgrounds also. We believe this helps us connect and help any person ready to works towards overall health. We also work towards making the entire center a calm and peaceful environment. We know that our services are only as good as the people who provide them, so a fulfilling work environment is imperative to the success of our business. We want a family atmosphere and work to make sure anyone who works out of our office feels this. With the different experiences Andrea and I have had in the past, we know that work needs to be a safe and calm place. This is one of our top goals as a business.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I was born and raised in Texas, so I am a fan of the Lone Star State! I spent most of my life in the DFW area, and really love the resources, entertainment, family activities, and just kind people that this area has to offer. I have my favorite restaurants, but I am happy to visit almost any place that has an outdoor patio and relaxed environment. I love downtown Dallas and the neat areas it has to offer. But, to be honest, my very favorite place to be is floating in my own pool with friends and family & my favorite music. It brings a sense of peace that I love!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am a relational person! There is not much that happens, in my life, that includes only myself. My faith tells me that God has a plan for me and my job is to look for that plan. So, from the get go, I have never done it alone. Besides my faith, my family has been my rock. This business is not a typical “9-5”, so I have had to miss some things with my family. I have also relied on them to help pick up the slack at home. My husband is a small business owner also, and that dynamic can present challenges. We love the flexibility and creativity of owning our own business, so that will never change. I am so thankful I have a family who not only supports but encourages me along this journey. I hope I am a true example to my children that they can really accomplish anything they work hard to do. My friends have been so helpful also. I have a few who are used to my call, 5 minutes before school pick up, because I am stuck at work. This support and help from my friends is invaluable. I feel like the luckiest person on the planet to work with my business partner, Andrea. We had no idea what we were getting ourselves into, with this small business. We have made mistakes and experience some bumps along the way, but I have no idea how I would have done it without her. We truly compliment each other. Where I am weak, she is strong, and vise versa. We constantly remind each other that we are moms, wives, friends, family members, PTA and other committee board members, and a million other things. Running this business is a dream but can not be our only goal. I can not count the number of texts between us that have said “I did not get something done at the office today and I feel so behind”. Every time we read that text from each other, the other one replies with something like “we are awesome moms and wives with a solid, stable business, it is ok to leave it today.” That support is what makes this dream so wonderful. I have been blessed with the amount of support around me, but my ultimate shoutout goes to God.
