We had the good fortune of connecting with Stacy Sutton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stacy, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
This may sound odd, but before I started my business, most of my time was spent working. I did not have much of a work life balance. It was mostly work and not much life.

I originally started my own business as a side hustle. I never thought that it would end up being my main gig.

Then COVID happened. And I got married and had a baby.

I really did not want to go back to working a full-time job where I did not see my child all day, and also have most of my salary go to child care. I really wanted to be there to watch my child grow up.

So, I made my side hustle my full time gig.

Ironically, now that I”m running my own business, I have much more time to spend with my family.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
It’s been a bit of a winding road to get to where I am today. I originally started my business as a side hustle with the purpose of helping those dealing with health issues navigate this confusing and exhausting medical system. I wanted to help people learn how to advocate for themselves.

Most of my patients have seen so many health care practitioners by the time they find me. They are exhausted and sometimes hopeless. They often have been told that nothing is wrong with them.

While I am passionate about helping people advocate for themselves, I also love being a pelvic floor physical therapist. I now have combined the two.

I have learned along the way that a person’s mindset and openness to all forms of healing is so essential to recovery.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve been so stuck in a pandemic mindset that it’s been a while since I have really enjoyed the city and all it has to offer.

In an ideal situation, I’d wake up and go to a free yoga class at Clyde Warren Park and then grab some brunch and a piece of pie at Bread Winners Cafe & Bakery in Uptown.

Another place I love to go to get some exercise in is Whiterock Lake and the nearby Arboretum is beautiful.

If we got a sweet tooth, I would definitely make a stop at Emporium Pies in the Bishop Arts District and then walk around to see the shops to help walk off the pie. And if you’re looking for gluten free and even sugar free sweets, Unrefined Bakery has some really tasty options.

For an exciting night time outing, I would take my friend out to Deep Ellum for an arts festival and some very unhealthy fair food.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The main person I would have to give credit to is my husband. He encouraged me tirelessly for years before I finally made the leap to create my business. Without him, I definitely would not be where I am today.

I would also like to recognize all those who mentored me to help me get to where I am today. This includes my friends and family, professors, professional friends, mentors and mentees, and previous employers. Without your mentorship and guidance, I wouldn’t be the person or the physical therapist I am today.
