We had the good fortune of connecting with Teeahnah “Tee Two Times” Addison and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tee Two Times, can you tell us about an impactful book you’ve read and why you liked it or what impact it had on you?
Talent is Never Enough by John C. Maxwell is a MUST READ for people who are naturally gifted but may need some direction. I was (and sometimes still am) one of those people but I always come back to this book when I feel like something is a bit out of reach and I need to re-strategize. Maxwell talks about being a “Talent PLUS” because the reality is that a lot of people are talented but the winners… the successful ones… they have a little extra. He breaks the extras down into belief, passion, initiative, focus, preparation, practice, perseverance, courage, teachability, character, relationships, responsibility and teamwork. It’s been a game changer for me.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In the midst of the pandemic, i’ve realized that great music, delicious food and genuine connections are what hold me together. So, in addition to being a Radio Personality, a professional DJ, an event host, a geometry teacher, and a vegan cookie baker, I recently launched a cooking show on YouTube! It’s what i’m most proud of right now. I bring on recording artists and those who are impacting my community to talk about music, hear their stories and learn to make a vegan-friendly meal. The show is called Time Two EET! (pronounced “time to eat”) which is a play on my name, Tee Two Times, and it brings together all the best parts of the things I am blessed to do.
I get to share my love for music with my guests and my clients as a DJ, to help people share their stories as an interviewer and to educate people about plant based cooking. Sharing a meal, sharing your favorite songs, sharing your life’s work and learning something new are all such vulnerable experiences. Walking into those experiences together is where connection happens and I believe that’s why we’re on this earth.
I truly do some of everything, but if I’m known for anything at all, it’s the fact that I bring great energy with me wherever I go. It’s humbling to feel like i’m a light in this world and it’s not a job I take lightly. Whether I’m at a party, in the classroom, or simply baking cookies, I do everything with a love that people can feel and I take pride in that.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite places to visit in Dallas are the Arboretum and Botanical Garden and the Cidercade! The botanical garden is beautiful. The flower sculptures were breathing taking and made for some amazing photos! Even on a solo trip, it’s a must go. For the night, the Cidercade is where it’s at! I had so much fun when I visited. The arcade games made me feel like a kid again. Each hard cider I tasted was great and so was the music! The taco truck outside was an added bonus. I actually can’t wait to go again.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As the saying goes… “It takes a village to raise a child” and even into my adulthood, i’m so grateful for the village that continues to raise me. I could write for days about my family, my circle of friends (immediate and extended), my GodFamily and my mentors because there are just SO MANY people who helped me thus far and are in it for the long haul with me. In this particular moment, I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to the staff and students at Denby High School on Kelly Road in Detroit (Especially the class of 2024!). Thank you for learning with me, learning from me and allowing me to learn from you. I am forever changed. Go Tars!
