Why did you pursue an artistic or creative career?

Artists and creatives face innumerable challenges given that their career path often doesn’t come with a playbook, a steady paycheck or any form of safety net. It’s definitely not easy and so we asked a few of the artists and creatives we admire to talk to us about why they chose to pursue an artistic or creative career.
My nieces and nephews are my biggest motivators! I want to be able to show them anything is possible with God. In fact, it was one of my nieces ideas for me to create a TikTok account. I’m truly a lover of music whether that is listening to my favorite record or hearing live music. Since I can remember, I loved to sing and started off like most in my church choir. I would lead songs and eventually become choir director which only fueled my love for harmonies and musical arrangements. Read more>>
I feel like I was always misunderstood ever since I was a child. So art for me was an outlet. I was able to express myself freely. Nobody had to understand my art & what I was trying to convey. As long as it made sense to me I was fine with that. When I saw my love for art grew tremendously it became much more than just a side hustle or a hobby. It was more about leaving a legacy behind. I think I was always drawn to the arts. I am pretty sure my mom put a camera in my hand about the time I could walk. I started drawing at a pretty young age too. I didn’t truly pursue it or really have a passion for it till my early 20s. I got lucky in that my first passion, led me to my second. I have been in love ever since.
