We asked some of the most creative folks we know to open up to us about why they chose a creative career path. Check out their responses below.

Katherine Monte | Floral Designer / Wedding and Event Specialist

I have worn many hats throughout my life in terms of career. Initially, I was a Mom. As my kids grew I tried many different job paths. Counselor and Realtor were just a few. I always ended that journey feeling empty and unfulfilled. Like some vital part of my life was missing. I found the Wedding and Event Industry by accident although I had always been a highly creative person. My Neice asked me to help plan her Wedding and do her Floral Design. It was my first venture into helping to tell a love story. I knew that this was my future after that event. Read more>>

Truitt Glover | Filmmaker

It’s always felt impossible for me not to pursue a career in filmmaking. Ever since I can remember, I’ve had this pull or tug towards creative storytelling that I can’t ignore, and if I tried to ignore it I think it would drive me crazy. Ultimately, filmmaking and storytelling for me is all about self-expression and communication. It’s always been a large part of who I am and what I believe my purpose is. Read more>>

Andrew Hamm | Designer AKA Dreux’ Hamm

I pursued the Artistic and creative life after I retired from basketball. I was still creative in basketball and always working on my game so putting the ball down didn’t mean I had to stop. Art and fashion always had my attention growing up. I grew up in Alief on the southwest side of Houston where mostly everybody wore streetwear. To me art is also a stress free environment that I feel free in and unstoppable. A lot of people cope with stress and anxiety in different ways but dressing nice, creating art and being creative helps me be the best version of myself in life. Being a creative person comes with a lot of ups and downs as well but if you can maintain the high & lows in this career things will definitely get better over time. Read more>>

Sam Cushion | Tattoo Artist

I’ve always been the artsy type, you know? I don’t think I would make it in a “normal” career. After being a dad and husband, being an artist in any sense of the word feels like who I am. Music was my first playground, and I spent over a decade composing orchestral scores for TV and my own side projects. It’s been a wild ride, especially getting a gold record – definitely a ‘pinch me’ moment. But it’s always been about the joy of creating something special, not just the accolades. Though it brings some legitimacy to what I was doing. Read more>>
