Positive Path Foundation came to me when I recognized a critical gap in our community’s healthcare services. As I observed the increasing prevalence of HIV and the general lack of awareness about sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) among youth and young adults, I felt compelled to take action. The idea for an HIV clinic dedicated to youth and young adults was born from this realization. We were a general contracting company and through our experience working with homeowners, designers and contractors, we felt that there needed to be a place like ours. We spent a lot of time meeting clients at numerous showrooms all over the metroplex to help them make choices for their renovation projects, but no single place had a great assortment of all the categories that we needed to cover. Over the years many friends, family, and co-workers would ask me for fishing advice. They would also often ask to go fishing with me, or if I would take them out on my boat. Also, one of my son’s Cub Scout Den wanted to earn their fishing belt loop award, but needed some guidance. My son eagerly volunteered me saying, “My Dad is a Great Fisherman, and he will teach us all how to gather our own live bait, how to tie some knots, how to make some rigs, how to cast a line out, and usually when we go we catch something”.
