We had the good fortune of connecting with Zoë Zahasky and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Zoë, what do you attribute your success to?
Personally I would say the most important factor in my success is that I truly care about my work. I care about the quality of tattooing that I put out into the world. I’ve said before in prior interviews that tattooing is not something that you can just pick up one day. You have to put so much time, love, blood, sweat and tears into this. To be a professional tattooer, you have to care a tremendous amount.
You have to be dedicated to the trade. You get out what you put into this business!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I come from a long line of creatives. Artists, painters, chefs, actors, designers & etc. I truly believe this life calls to me.
Creativity runs through my blood. Passed down from generation to generation! It truly is a gift.
I do feel like having the art background I have and being brought up in an environment where you’re encouraged to be an artist gives me a leg up.
Tattooing is an exchange of energy between tattooer and client.
I want to know you and your story.
I want to put my art into your journey.
I want to have you leave with not only a badass piece of art on you but I want you to really resonate with that artwork.
I want your tattoo to be representative of not only you as an individual, but also me as the artist.
We really have to work together!
Lucky I have some amazing clients who trust me completely.
That’s trust is a bond that I will never take for granted.
Having the ability to do what you love and make a living out of it is such an amazing feeling. I’m so very grateful to be where I am. I’ve worked very hard in my career and will continue to thrive!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Let me just start by saying funky town forever! Fort Worth will always have my heart. I live here, I work here, and I raise my children here.
This city is amazing! If you come to Texas you absolutely have to come to Fort Worth.
The west side is certainly my favorite.
(Although I may be biased)
Camp Bowie baby!
As far as eats Fred’s Cafe has the best burgers & chicken fried steak!
Hanabi Ramen is absolutely delicious!
Ramen lovers don’t sleep on this little noodle house!
And of course good ol’ Bonehead Tattoo
stop by and get a badass tattoo from me! One of the first tattoo shops in Fort Worth. This place has a lot of history.
The Rail is one of last true music venues here in Fort Worth. I would definitely catch a show. The local music scene here is really fantastic out here.
I’ve gotta lot of love for Fort Worth!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The person who deserves the credit would be my mentor Che Eccles. He’s one the hardest working men I have ever met in my life.
When I first started out as an apprentice, he owned The Chop Shop and Godfather Ink. He would work on motorcycles all day and tattoo all night.
When he took me on as an apprentice I worked as a bartender for about 7 years.
My husband and I had 2 young daughters, I worked both as an apprentice and a bartender for 2 years.
It was a struggle to find balance in my life. But the admiration I had for him working as hard as he did, helped me keep focused. I kept my eye on the prize because I really wanted to tattoo.
