We had the good fortune of connecting with Zion James and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zion, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
For my business, I wanted to create a way for people that just starting their business to have a easier way to manage the backend technical side of things while they focus on their product or service that they are working on. The reason for this is not because they don’t have the ability to do so, but that it would ultimately take away from the core of their business that should be focused on diving deep into their passion and developing it to its utmost potential.

Speaking to developing, I wanted to also provide my knowledge and expertise to new business as there are many things that you might not necessarily think about. When we start there are plenty of ideas that can be implemented to create something that goes beyond the imagination, but having a clear roadmap is crucial for that to happen. Consulting allows for better businesses in the future as ideas and expertise can be shared and applied, if not now then in the future.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a Web Designer that also creates and manages client websites. While in general, there are other web designers, I also take a step into a consulting roll to assist in guiding my clients end goal for their business. Especially for those that mainly have just their idea this step is crucial for me because I was raised on the principle of lifting the community.

In general, the business idea itself wasn’t difficult, but doing the research, reaching out to clientele, keeping up with the different technologies, and philosophies definitely took time to learn. That being said, I am dedicated to my craft and that I want to see you succeed.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Let’s see, the first thing that you should know about me is breakfast is the true meal of the day at any time of the day. If I were planning an itinerary, every location that we go to would serve breakfast or breakfast type foods to say the least.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are many people in my life that deserve praise, first my faith and family for guiding me along my journey. While they may have had a hard time with me, They stuck through until the end for me to be the man that I am today.

The organization that helped me become the man that I am today is called Mentoring Brother 2 Brother. Through this organization, I learned the concepts and elements of how to be a real man. There motto being “Iron Sharpens Iron”, this was one of the reasons I wanted to help other business owners like myself to sharpen each others iron.

Then members of the Audio/VIsual Ministry at Concord Church. These people encouraged my ideas and gave me some guidance into what I can and should do for my business when I first got started. They each have something to learn from and use to grow myself to make myself better.

My business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi taught me many things about how to conduct myself in the workplace. I learned many things through my time in collegiate and have taken those principles and incorporated them into how I conduct business.

Even though I recently joined, I want to thank Phi Beta Sigma as I have been able to glimpse and reach out brothers that have my best interest and support me in many aspects. It’s crucial to have an environment of men that can hold me accountable and wish for me to support the community like they do.

A special thanks go to my small, but close circle of friends that have supported me along the way especially the owner of The Econ Queen for sharing my contact with Shoutout DFW. Each and every one of you holds a special place in my heart for being who you are and helping become who I am today.

Finally, while I could go through each person’s name that assisted me the list would never end as I’ve been able to glimpse something from all the people in my life. You know who you are, you are special to me and I am thankful that you have been in my life. Thank you.
