We had the good fortune of connecting with Zeniea (Z) Laws and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zeniea (Z), we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As I began to take Pilates more often, I was searching for an instructor that was a woman of color. I was driving far, trying different studios. The representation simply wasn’t there. I said to myself, “Well, you should become an instructor!” And that’s how it began.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Ze Health and Wellness is just getting started. Originally from the south suburbs of Chicago. I wanted a change and I put cities in a hat and pulled Dallas. Next thing you know, I was packing my car and headed south. I didn’t have it in the plan to become a Pilates Instructor or to start Ze Health and Wellness. I was working a remote corporate job in Human Resources and as a Flight Attendant. I saw a need and decided to fill it. I am most proud of listening to my heart and doing what makes me happy. Understanding that my calling is not just for me. I am a vessel simply allowing God to use me. I am extremely excited about the relationships I have built and the ones I will continue to build.

I want the world to know that following your heart is always the right thing to do. Your heart and intuition will lead you to where you are supposed to be. Don’t ignore your calling, you are needed, we are waiting on you.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Our week will be full of all things related to health and wellness. Of course we are going to Pilates! I teach at two studios so surprise surprise, we are going to both! I always like to teach a class and take a class. My friends will be tagging along! I am still eating and exploring my way around Dallas. The Bishop Arts neighborhood is currently my favorite. Brunch and a little shopping after class. Especially the local markets on the weekends. I love supporting locally owned businesses. Pouring my dollar back into the community is very important to me. We’ll also go for a walk on the Trinity Skyline trail. We will probably end the stay by attending Outside The Studio. A forum where we gather and have guided conversation and I get the opportunity to connect with people outside the studio. Connecting people is one of my favorite things to do!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

The Oak Cliff community, all the studio members, all the women who sought me out and came to the different studios to take a class with me.

Oak Cliff Pilates! I started as a client at their studio and became an instructor. The owner, Amanda Mecsey, took me under her wings immediately!

Pilates214! The owner, Melissa Sajjadi, for showing me the behind the scenes of running a studio.
