We had the good fortune of connecting with Yvonne Dodson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yvonne, what inspires you?
When it comes to being inspired, I love bringing a smile to someone’s face by serving the DFW area through nostalgic, soft serve Mister Softee ice cream. I mean who doesn’t love a good ice cream treat? I have a passion for connecting with people, building relationships and bringing joy when I pull up in my ice cream truck. I get to do that through various types of events as well as driving neighborhoods. Being inspired by what I can contribute to those around me will never get old.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

My first job at 16 years old was working at an ice cream shop and serving people a delicious treat was so fun. Though, after several entrepreneurial endeavors and climbing the corporate ladder for 20 years; it seems I have come full circle in what really brings me joy. In a journey to reconcile the constant workload of corporate jobs and inability to find balance between work and my family life; I started brainstorming ideas. I wanted to serve the community with superior customer service, fun times, and something that brought joy…then it just fell in my lap: A Mister Softee Ice Cream truck! That was it! Though, this was no ordinary ice cream truck; Mister Softee is “The VERY Best”! I wanted to revive the nostalgic memory of ice cream trucks that was missing in so many people’s lives. The sound of the truck bell coming near makes one’s mouth water with great anticipation. After all, I once served ice cream to people who came in a store- why can’t I go to them. Since I have a strong background with entrepreneur opportunities and a career in advertising and marketing; I felt confident to pursue this endeavor. Mister Softee is a soft serve ice cream parlor on wheels that I not only drive the neighborhoods of DFW but also handle every type of Party, Festival, Wedding, Corporate Event, Schools and Fundraiser! Working these various opportunities has been so neat in helping employers give their employees a special appreciation, celebrating big life events with people, or helping children meet their fundraising goals. One of my biggest accomplishments was serving at an event that Amazon held for their employees. We were able to serve 3300 people over 4 hours each day in 2 days. Whew, I was so proud to be a part of an intentional opportunity to celebrate the hard work of their people. Since I serve everywhere in the DFW, I am honored to link arms with people in so many capacities that it hardly ever feels like work. As our reputation grows, in both neighborhoods and community events, it’s like having personal followers who we have built relationships with and see again and again. I get the opportunity to bring joy to every kind of person as they savor the moments of quality treats ranging from Cones, Sundaes, Soda Floats, Milkshakes and more. Each time I open the truck window with a warm smile to take someone’s order I am greeted back with the biggest smile of people who are excited to place their order. I really do have the best job in helping families make memories as they enjoy one of our yummy treats. I’m a believer that there can always be a little more joy in our world, and I’m here to do just that! I am a native Texas girl who loves her husband and 6 children. I love cheering on my youngest son at his baseball games when I am not serving people “The VERY Best” ice cream.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Anyone visiting the DFW should really make a stop at some of the best Food Truck spots that are guaranteed to bring memories. The Truck Yard in Dallas is one of the best in paving the way for this creative dining experience. It has an exciting environment of delicious food truck options along with spacious seating to enjoy the many events they host. With locations in both Dallas and The Colony, it is sure to be a unique good time!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Warren buffet: Known as the “Oracle of Omaha,” Warren Buffett is an investment guru and one of the richest and most respected businessmen in the world. He is known for how he has both directly or indirectly inspired people to start their own businesses and be entrepreneurs. One of those business was a soft serve ice cream truck out of California; which inspired me further with Mister Softee. I also have an amazing loving family that has supported me the beginning.
