We had the good fortune of connecting with Yvette Maldonado and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yvette, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
Opening a business that caters to students in grades K-12 in a growing school district such as Prosper, Tx in a a busy shopping center. I get lots of exposure and foot traffic which helps my brand awareness and interest in my services.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is The Tutoring Center located in Prosper, Texas. I believe what sets me apart from others is a genuine care about my staff, students and their families. As a mom to 4 daughters and a former classroom teacher, I know and feel what parents are seeking for their children. I view it as a plea for help and I take that very seriously. I treat my students as if they were my own and help them to be successful in and out of the classroom.
My parents were small business owners as were my husband’s parents, so I am not surprised at all that we choose this path for ourselves. The life as a small business owner is not easy by all means, but we committed to the same mindset that failure is not an option. You give it all you got, problem solve along the way, and invite Jesus to walk alongside you in the journey through the good and bad.
We have learned many lessons along the way, but probably the most important is that God and family are priority. We have failed and we have won and through all of it, God and our family were our constants.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Most definitely, my husband Randy. He is a BIG part of my story. He is the true entrepreneur and I have learned many operational and administrative skills from him. We worked together for over 20 years in a different industry where we each brought our talents together to operate successful restaurants. We loved serving our customers and took pride in our product. While we don’t work together at this business, I turn to him for advise as he is my sounding board, guide, and major supporter.
