We had the good fortune of connecting with Young Tez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Young, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
I ask myself that question often. It’s been plenty times in my career where I felt as if I wasn’t doing enough or I wasn’t giving it my all and just wanted to give up. I’m sometimes would pray about it, asking God if this is even for me or not. Then things would happen, sooner than later a door would open up to give me a little more fuel, or I’d get a post from a fan saying how my music helped motivate them or get them through their day. Things like that is what reminds me that I have a bigger purpose and to keep at it because you never know who’s paying attention and who and how you will impact that person/s life.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart? That’s a question that’s always asked. I’d say I’m me, never been anyone else but me. I dress how I want to dress, I talk how I want to talk, I do what I want to do, I am how I am and nothing has changed that. Most people can’t honestly say the same and that’s what separates me. I’m proud I’ve made it this far without an actual team. I never had a set team that has pushed and opened doors for me, I really just kept pushing and networked with a lot of people. I put my name out there and kept it out there. Meeting people is hard but you realize it’s a must so you kind of just jump and hope you land on higher ground. Sometimes you reach that higher ground and sometimes you don’t but at least you made that effort and that’s what matters most. It wasn’t easy to get where I am today and I had many challenges, from losing money by getting scammed, performances getting canceled or raided, people flaking or giving up on the dream. Lots of things happened along this road but it makes you who you are and adds to your story. I just want the world to know they got a real one. You follow me on my journey and you will have ups and downs but you’ll always make it out. I’m fun and exciting and full of great vibes. Who wouldn’t want to be apart of greatness?
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well since this is Dallas we’re talking about, I’d spend a day at the Galleria Mall off top, then maybe a day at the Arboretum and Botanical Garden just because it’s a chill place to go. Also the Fort Worth Water Gardens is a dope spot as well. Catching a Cowboys game would be an experience and even a Mavericks game. Because I’m from Chicago though, I’d like to see them play a Chicago team, be it the Bulls or Bears or even a hockey game to see the Blackhawks. I’m also all about the theme parks so a day at Six Flags over Texas is a must as well. Some places I’d say to eat at are Terry Black’s Barbecue, The Oceanaire Seafood Room, The Bowl and Barrel, Sambuca 360, Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen, The Magnolia, etc. I’d go on and on and on, but those are a few place to try out. Pretty much anywhere downtown you’ll find something to do.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Well I’d like to start by truly thanking God. My faith has always been a driving force behind what I do. Secondly my mom, she’s pretty dope and has always been supportive of my in anything I do and with my music career she’s been right there behind me always! My family is also a huge support from my cousin Destiny who always stays up on my latest song to her brother Micah, to my cousin’s in Cincinnati, Memphis, Florida, Chicago, really all my family! My brothers Adam, Mac Diesel, Mike, Lil Jacky, and my sister and my nephews. My family has really been support, aunties, my grandma all of them. My girl, posting my songs and telling all her friends about me and showing them my videos. She’s even got a liking to taking professional pics of me which goes a long way as well! My friends, have been supportive, posting my music, wearing my gear, telling people about me, showing off my videos. My videographer, my fans, followers, listeners, radio stations that played me, blogs that posted me. Everyone that knows me knows me and knows I appreciate them. Love ya’ll…
