We had the good fortune of connecting with xzandria Villatoro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi xzandria, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have always been creative, when I was a little girl I would customize every single item to what I liked which was mainly cheetah print ,bright NEON colors and anything shiny !
My grandfather was the one who taught me how to sew at a very young age . I use to watch my grandfather make the seats inside of an airplane from scratch to finish! He would make me little purses from left over scraps . Naturally I wanted to sew just like him, so he taught me how . Since then he has a been a huge part of my life in becoming an Artist and Business owner.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What I am excited about is having my business become a corporation. I have been pursing opening my business for years now. I just never had people root for me like I do now and with that encouragement I have now opened my business and am making cute clothes and accessories for people who felt they never quite belonged in society. I know how that feels being in Texas and coming from Chicago. I love to be able to express myself any way I feel .
It definitely was not easy to get my business going . I did not ask for money. I did it all by myself. I learned all the laws and what it takes to have a business and it is a lot but completely worth it in the end.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would first take them to the fabrication yard , it is where artist can go to do graffiti or create thier art on walls approved by the city . Whenever I go there, there is always something going on whether its a music video or another artist spray painting something. I have met so many people there that are so down to earth and encourage each other .
My friends and I like nature so I would find a nice preservation for us to walk and talk .
Next I would go to spiral diner for lunch, they are organic-leaning vegan food.. super yummy!
Bishop arts is right around there so I would go and look at shops in that area .
When it gets later I would find a karaoke bar so we can sing till our hearts desire ! I love karaoke and its a must being out on the town with me.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Bi-polar Mind The Beautiful Curse and Dallas Pinup Dolls have both helped me tremendously in the last 3 years.
I had no idea that someone like me could still succeed in life with a mental illness that affects me daily but I have overcome my fears with the help of the Bi-polar community and the amount of love for each other is something I wish everyone had.
The Dallas Pinup Dolls have allowed me to grow with a group of women who encourages ,lifts up and supports each others ideas and business . They truly are like my second family .
