Meet Winnie Tam | Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Winnie Tam and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Winnie, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
Dream big and work hard. My husband and I are happy with what we are doing: selling coffee & signature drinks while helping local rescue groups. We are glad that Frisco Fresh Market is pet friendly, and we can arrange and support the local rescues hosting adoption events there from time to time.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Many of the customers wonder why we named our business “Coffee Yan & Paws”. First, Julian and I have the same first name in Chinese: “Yan”. In Cantonese, Coffee Yan also have the same pronunciation as Caffeine. (Yes, we are HongKonger and Cantonese is our mother tongue.) And the “Paws” means our fur babies. They are all adopted from no-kill shelter. They are part of our family, as well as this “family business”. We love our business, not only to serve customers a good cup of coffee, but also to spread the words: “Adopt, don’t shop.” We also make donation to local rescue groups monthly.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is a good question to remind myself where I’ve been before pandemic. Sneaky Pete in Lewisville is my first choice to bring my best friend to visit. Downtown McKinney is also a great place to visit as well. Lots of great restaurants in DFW I hang out with my friends: Whiskey Cake, Tei Tei, Tei-an, The Boiling Crab, etc. Wineries in Grapevine are great places for happy hours too!!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Dan from Cody’s Friends Rescue. We worked closely to bring the first greet and meet pet adoption event to the Frisco Fresh Market. Since then, we hosted couple more greet and meet events, and they were a big success. Po Yi (Beverly) Tsoi – Our photographer for all the good pictures. Last but not least, of course my family: Julian (husband), Simba (aka the Chow Chow King), and Michiko (aka the Rotti Queen), and also my fur babies that are on the Rainbow Bridge. They give me so much love and motivation to go after my dream.
