We had the good fortune of connecting with Whitney Power and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Whitney, what do you attribute your success to?
The success behind my personal brand is specializing in a skill and doing it well, for me thats wellness pedicures. I found a niche that I love and am passionate about. Providing a listening ear and care to clients who suffer from troubled feet who need help getting their toenails in a controlled manner. They can’t get this kind of service from a regular salon so they are looking for someone to help them. I have been a resident in Texas for only a year and not knowing anyone here I was able to move from California and build up my clientele in a little under a year as well as open my new place of business using my expert skills of performing wellness pedicures which has had a great impact on the community here.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The beauty industry has always surrounded me for most of my life. Originally a native of Califonia living in the central valley (Visalia), my aunt was a hair dresser. I believe my passion for beauty stemmed from always being inside a salon and helping her around the shop. When I decided to pursue cosmetology school at 21( 2010), not having a diploma or GED would be the first thing to hold me back. 6 years would come and go before I thought about trying again and would be told I still needed to get a GED or diploma. So 2016, I enroll in Adult school in hopes of getting my GED, it only took me one month to complete the 4 required courses and get a GED! I immediately sign up for cosmetology school and enrolled starting 2 weeks later at the age of 27. Graduated in July of 2018 and have been a licensed professional for a little over 6 years now and have enjoyed every minute of it, even with the highs & lows. While my journey had set backs I will say its never to late to pursue something you love because it’s true that if you love what you do you’ll never work a day in your life.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As I’m still new to Texas and still exploring so far these would be my top picks.
-Dallas world aquarium
-The Ranch (Las Colinas)
-Lower Greenville area ( Leelas for sure but lots of bars and eatieries to choose from, even some cool thrift stores too!)
-Clyde Warren Park and ride the trolly that takes you all through Uptown, I think it’s so fun!
-Lupe Tortilla (Las Colinas) I love their Mexican food
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank my husband who has always been my number one supporter of any venture I have set out to do. Also, the original wellness pedicure queen Lori Halloway, my mentor for having an amazing program to study for wellness pedicures.
