We had the good fortune of connecting with Wes S King and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Wes S King, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
Just actively making the choice to be who I am. Myself. And then finding a way to express that.
In my opinion it’s one of the hardest things we get to do in this life because there’s so many different directions and detours on this roadmap called life.
Even if you claim to be “real” or “honest,” we often find a way to be in situations where we tend to please others whether it’s at work, home, with friends and family, or even by ourselves in a room.
I want to be honest enough to say that it’s hard to be real all the time and it’s okay to make mistakes.
So I made the decision to not be the perfect human, but be perfect the way I am.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
People tend to judge others by generalizing and putting them in boxes. Call it a “defense mechanism.”
I took note of this early on as a kid because I’ve never been the type to just do one thing. There’s way more to life than that. And I want to do it all. I want everything. That’s where music comes into play. Before I learned to talk, I was banging on everything around me trying to be creative.
It’s not been easy though. Dealing with social constructs, standards and expectations, and stereotypes. It’ll make or break you.
But by learning to be grateful and accepting of who and what you are, and what you have, you can gradually overcome these types of obstacles.
I’m weird. At least that’s what everyone tells me. Even my mom and my girl but they’re still here. And with all the craziness going on in the world right now, we need it!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh man I would say the Common table for a hip hop themed brunch
And of course the Reunion tower is a must go to see the Dallas Skyline area
There’s a lot of things to do for fun and eat at the Stockyards in Fort Worth
Then I would have to go take them to The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens
I like Slutty Vegan in Deep Ellum
And you can’t wrong with Pecan Lodge for some Texas bbq brisket
Of course Lo-lo’s Chicken and Waffles for a little Soul food
And then Level Dallas for a good time at night
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I just want to say thanks to the women in my life that give me a reason to keep going. My mom, my sister, girlfriend, Kineatra
I also would like to give a shout-out to my bros who give me the fire I need to execute and allow me to go off and let loose. Imari, Tallon, and Rhen
