Meet Wendy Kidd | Entrepreneur, Event Planner and Business Consultant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Wendy Kidd and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Wendy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My father is the one who started my entrepreneurship journey, by inviting me to be a co-owner in a small online only business while I was in college. Because of that, I looked into resources for starting a business and found the Small Business Develpment Center, which offered many courses on business ownership. I’ve always loved learning and the more I read, the more I found that entrepreneurship really appealed to me. From having the ability to make the decisions about my career to the freedom of deciding how and when I would work, it really allowed me to be in control of my own life, which I loved. I started my own business of Each & Every Detail in 2005, seeing a need for wedding planners for the everyday engaged couple. At that time, planners had been focused on luxury weddings only and were seen as a luxury themselves. I wanted to make planning accessible for all couples. Having been married just a few years previously myself, I knew first hand how frustrating wedding planning could be. I wanted to make the wedding planning process easier for couples and took the risk to start my own business to do just that.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I own three businesses that all reflect one core mission: making life easier for others. Each & Every Detail is my event planning company, which I’ve run for 20 years, focusing on weddings, social celebrations, and corporate events. My experience, approachable style, and systematic planning—especially across a variety of event types and cultural traditions—really set us apart. I also run Boss Level Engaged, a business consulting firm born from years of entrepreneurs asking to “pick my brain.” I love being that creative partner who not only dreams big with clients but helps them implement, too. My third business is a mobile notary service, which I started after navigating the healthcare system for my parents and realizing I could offer a much-needed support for others in that same situation.
I’m most proud of the longevity and reputation I’ve built, especially having remained profitable through the challenges of the pandemic. I’m excited to grow Boss Level Engaged and launch The NonProfit Nook—a podcast and membership that supports nonprofit leaders who rarely get the business recognition or resources they deserve. My journey hasn’t always been easy; I balanced jobs, built trust slowly, and dealt with turnover and industry unpredictability. But I’ve learned that constant education, strong communication, and collaboration with others are the keys to long-term success. What I want people to know is that I lead with integrity, high standards, and a desire to create wins for both clients and my team.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh my gosh, well, I just LOVE downtown McKinney. The historic square has so much to offer and it’s one of my absolute favorite places to hang out, especially during one of the festivals they have each year! I’d absolutely book massages at my favorite, Pavitra Spa, and facials with WZ Beauty Studio. Maybe some makeovers too! I’d take them to lunch at Rick’s Chophouse and we could spend our afternoon shopping on the square. I love Neighborhood Books (total bookworm and collector), so we’d have to visit there and my other favorite shop, Fair and Square Imports. For fun evening hangouts, we could visit Arcade 92 (again, that nerd heart), the Comedy Arena or The Horse’s Axe! For dinner, if we wanted to go casual, I’d take them to Cadillac Pizza Pub or for more elegant but fun, we’d hit up the top floor of Harvest.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many influences on one’s own experience in the world and teachable moments, it’s hard to quantify everything that helped me to get where I am today. I do have to shoutout my husband, who has supported me through thick and thin on this entrepreneur journey. He’s never doubted that I could make things happen and I could never have done this without his support and encouragement. I’ve seen so many woman with partners who not only didn’t support them, but doubted and discouraged them. My husband is amazing for being strong enough to support me on my journey. I also want to shoutout my employees, especially those who joined me in the early years. They were such strong women and ready to be take the leap with me, learning from me as a planner and teaching me how to be a good boss. They were amazing as planners but also as human beings! If it hadn’t been for them, my company would not have grown and leveled up as it did.
