We had the good fortune of connecting with Wendy Carson Wooldridge and Mariisa Carson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Wendy & Mariisa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Hi Wendy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?

Me and my mother started the business in 1999. I was in my 20’s and wanted to spend as much time as I could with my mom, she was my best friend..so we started a business together so we could work together. It was our dream! We prayed hard for this.

Her and I just shared so much in common and one thing we shared was wanting to open a business that helped people feel beautiful…not just the outside….we wanted them to feel beautiful within by sharing the gospel and telling them how Jesus loved them. We choose to start a Christian based Salon and Medical spa. I looked up to the women my mom was everyday. She had the biggest love for people.
Just a few years of being open…. she was misdiagnosed with Cancer and quickly died of the treatment that she had received. Mom was only 50 years old when she passed. I remember the day I walked into the business after she passed….I wanted to close the doors… because the biggest part of starting my own business was to spend time with her and she was no longer there.
I thought hard and prayed and found myself wanting to make Body Enhancement Medical Spa + Salon successful in memory of her.
I choose to keep the business going. Being only in my late 20’s I had to learn real quick what to do and what not to do as a business owner. I worked hard and hoped to one day work beside my daughter or other family members in business. Years passed and my daughter who was 3 years old when we first opened the business turned 18 and it was time for her to go to college… I will never forget the day she came up to me and said mom I want to go to school and work with you at the family business…so I can spend time with you and when I have children I can be there for them like the business allowed you to do when me and Dakota was growing up. Marissa now 24 has been working with me for several years and we have now opened our second location in the beautiful downtown town of Van Alstyne. I can say Mariisa has built up the business and has made a good name for herself. I call her a celebrity hair stylist! She is the best stylist I have ever worked with. Her talent is so amazing and I know my mom (her grandmother) would be so proud of her. So I can say dreams do come true. My moms dreams are still alive today! Prayers are answered! Many peoples lives have been touched and changed because of this business being open.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love church. I love praise and worship.

If you are visiting Dallas I would say Go visit my home church in Dallas. Pathway of life https://www.polc.cc/

I would take my best friend or loved one there for sure!

Then after church have a good hamburger at Griff’s! https://www.griffshamburgers.com/

This was some of my mom’s favorite places to go!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to say thank you first of all to my mom who always believed in me. She always encouraged and gave me so much hope. My sister who helped in so many ways during the time mom was sick. She kept the business going while I stayed with mom in the hospital and while we traveled across the world for alternative treatment in hopes to save our moms life. I would like to thank my son and daughter for just just being. You both are why I kept going and didn’t give up in the darkest time of my life (the loss of my mom) your grandma. I wanted to be all I could be as a mom to you both. I wanted you both to look up to me and be proud I was your mom. You both gave me reason to try hard to be successful in every part of my life.
