Meet Walter Lee | Professional Actor/Singer & Entertainer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Walter Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Walter, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
In my line of work I’m constantly putting myself out there. Whether it be Theater, singing, or Drag, I’m presenting myself to be judged or praised. We as artists never know what the outcome will be BUT that is the risk we are willing to take because the passion for what we do runs so deeply. Without taking that first risk, that passion would have never been found.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a member of The Actors Equity Association, I’m also the lead male vocalist in Downtown Fever Band. On top of that, I’m also a Drag Queen by the name of Jada Pinkett Fox. It’s a lot, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m proud that I am able to make a living doing everything I love. I wouldn’t have gotten here if I allowed self doubt to poison my thoughts of success. It’s definitely still a struggle sometimes, but I’ve learned to always see the positive even if the negative outweighs it. If an audition comes up that I think I can’t do, I tell myself to do it because without challenges, growth isn’t possible. I’ve learned to always take risks as terrifying as that is. I’d like everyone to know that being an artist is beautiful but it’s also just like any other job.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d take them EVERYWHERE! No seriously! I’m a huge foodie but I have a weak spot for Sushi so I’d take them to Sushi Zushi or Oishi. We’d have to check out the bars on “The Strip” mainly Woody’s because that’s where I work, but we’d definitely bar hop. I’d take them to Deep Ellum for some live music at The Freeman (and the food).. Then we’d head over to On Premise for some dancing! Walking down either of these areas is entertaining by itself! Anyone who is not from Texas has to at least once go to Shell Shack! The seafood there is amazing.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Dance Discovery Studios (Abilene TX) under the mentor ship of Teri Wilkerson has helped mold me as an entertainer. She and her company challenged me but never let me give up or take the easy way out. I owe a lot to her and her company. I’d also like to recognize Paramount Theater (Abilene TX). That’s where my love for theater grew and also where I had my first leading role.
