We had the good fortune of connecting with Victoria Nugent and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Victoria, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting Vique Botanical Boutique was the significance and importance I placed on the first bouquet my boyfriend ever got me. It didn’t take me long to know he was “the one” so those flowers really meant something special to me. they dried out naturally and during quarantine, I got pretty bored. I had thiose dried red roses and a cool piece of driftwood I used as decor on my shelf, and decided to get crafty! Flowers play a really pivotal part in a multitude of special life events, and why would you want to just throw them away after a few days? I come from a design background and thought how cool would it be if you could see those flowers all the time as everyday home decor items!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I take florals from special occasion events like weddings, baby showers, funerals or any memorable moment and transform them into home decor items such as centerpieces, sculptures, and acrylics. Im different because most floral preservationists press their flowers or put them in epoxy. I keep my flowers in true form and create items that you would normally see in your home, but add that floral sentiment that is unique to each client. I use a unique process to dry out and color enhance the florals the create each piece to reflect the unique style and vibe of each individual client!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely take the by my retail spot at The Market At Ridglea! It’s my first retail space so I’d be excited to share that with her! I’d probably also go to Clearfork and walk around/ grab lunch. Press cafe is one of my favorites. And the shopping is great too! Lastly, I would most likely do the cliche but extremely necessary Joe T’s/ Billy Bobs at night. Such a fun atmosphere and the food is a staple for sure! A couple other place I love that we’d go to at some point would be Winslows Wine Cafe or Hotel Drover for a drink, Reata or B&B’s for a nice dinner, and Yogi’s Deli for breakfast!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My dad and my boyfriend, both play a pretty pivotal role in where I’ve come thus far. My dad has always supported all my dreams. Literally everything I have chosen to pursue he was behind me supporting every single step of the way. He gave me a whole lot of encouragement to pursue this. He’s definitely my biggest cheerleader My boyfriend, Jason, was a big part of this journey for sure! Without that bouquet of red roses I don’t know if the idea would have crossed my mind! Jason also took on the role of mentor throughout this journey of building my business. He comes from a start-up background and hustles like no one I know, so his guidance and expertise in the challenges and obstacles that come along with building a business have been so priceless. Especially in the early days when you breakdown and cry every two seconds cause you’re just trying to figure it out! Building a business weighs super heavy on your emotions and it challenges you in ways you’ve never experienced. Jason helped me handle those emotional breakdowns and keep moving forward!
