We had the good fortune of connecting with Victoria Beard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Victoria, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m from Plano, Texas, and have lived here my whole life. I was raised in a mixed race Hispanic household so got the best of both worlds, I would say. My upbringing was simple and really revolved around family, hard workers, great story tellers, and a mindset that we had it all when at times we didn’t have much. I was raised on watching old westerns and war movies, ones with John Wayne, and shows that had a historic charm with my dad, listening to 70s rock, to 90s country, and my mom would bring on the Spanish classics. I feel that’s definitely where I get my spark for my western art and Mexican-fusion skeleton concepts. That, and overall Texan pride. I was always thought of as an “old soul” and reminded throughout my life by my family and others and always had a mind racing million miles a minute with an imagination I wish I could say was not too big for my head. Both my mother and father are creative in their own ways, from arts and crafts, woodwork, and cooking. My older sister was artistic in athletic skills and has the big brains. So I was definitely surrounded with a mixture of everything. My parents were always supportive of dreams we had and have each lived very eventful lives. Especially my father, had much wisdom, a simple question could turn into an hour conversation life lesson. He was and is my superman and could really understand my crazy imagination and pushed me to be happy and move forward making my art a career.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve always loved art and drawing but really started in high school as an escape to my own little world and has just always been there for me through tough times, art and music. Eventually, my favorite original concept, “Fís Ceoil” was born. Fís Ceoil is Irish Gaelic for “Musical Vision” and it’s when I focus on a song, it’s emotion, tune, or lyrics and personally interpret what I see and hear into a drawing. It is not only my favorite concept, but it became my most personal form of art. After my sister suggested me to get an art social media account, of which I named my business after my concept, “Fís Victoria” (referring to “my vision”) back in 2019, I got to reach out to bands and singers who have inspired my Fís Ceoils or they reach out to me- it’s always an honor, artist to artist. I also started doing commissions of people’s pets, portraits, and working with different mediums. Then I really started exploring westerns when I was volunteering at a therapeutic horse-riding organization and made art to fundraise for them. I did horse portraits and watercolor landscapes with cowboy and horse silhouettes, even painted a saddle for them which was super fun! When I was majoring in health sciences and taking anatomy, I had to really study the skeleton and started incorporating it and what I learned into my art along with cultural inspirations. My professors were even supportive wondering why I was not doing art as a career and we still laugh about those times. I later expanded to designing tattoos, my own and eventually others, even though I myself, do not do the tattooing. While in school, I had my art placed in an exhibit for the first time and I was nervous at first to putting my art out and cared too much about other people’s opinions at a time, until I didn’t and found myself more content when I started doing that. I even developed courage to enter my first art contest with the Dialogue Institute Dallas and placed finalist 2nd place, back to back 2024 and 2025. With graphic design, I started to digitize my art and made my own shirts. I met a great friend with who started crocheting and then we both had the insane awesome idea to start doing vendor events, making a name for ourselves and to just have fun. These events sparked numerous ideas which lead to prints, leather engraving, stickers, and even koozies that I started selling and really building a brand. As I refer to myself as a Lone Star State artist, I’m the one that wears boots, buckle, and hat at my events, and depending on what I’m wearing, the gal with tattoos that will share how she puts her tattoos she designed as little easter eggs on her art or have them as full on concepts. I’ve learned to have fun and be confident with how I am as a person and artist by making myself happy with my art, and if others find joy in it, that’s just a plus, not a priority. I never stick with one thing, I love to challenge myself and do it all. I take pride in living life and trying your best to get to where you want to be. Especially after my father suddenly passed April, 2024, it made me more mature in realizing what’s more important to me than ever is to just live life, don’t get stuck on the bad and failures in your life, get back in the saddle and keep moving. Being a graphic designer now and then having my business on the side, is the best. I’m glad I get to use my God-given creativity everyday, and the goal I set up for myself, is to have this career and throughout my life to never feel like I worked a day.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m not much of a city person, however, the skyline in Dallas at night with all the lights is mesmerizing. I love country two stepping, so a stop at Red River Dallas would have to be a must. If we wanted to stay local, we’d definitely have to go to Fillmore Pub in downtown Plano for a whiskey or two (or however many), visit a couple breweries, and stop by the Legacy dining hall for something to eat since there’s so many options and just a fun atmosphere, especially if there’s football game on. If that friend was not from Texas, I would have to take them to a boot barn, one of the best smelling places ever- I love me the smell of leather, and of course, Bucees stop, no doubt. Other fun things to do is just walk around the Star in Frisco for the Dallas Cowboys, or if there’s a rangers game, go to that. Could go for high paying thrills at Six flags over Texas, something spontaneous like getting a flash tat, or go thrifting around. As I said, I’m not much of a city person, and actually being a native Texan, I can say I’ve never been to Houston, San Antonio, or Austin. I know, shocking. And I’ve only been to Fort Worth for the first time being just over a year ago, stockyards twice and I now do events at breweries in that area from time to time. I can say though, a drive going north or east is nice and green. Lakes, cute small towns, hole in the wall finds, hiking areas, and cheap ticket concerts are more my vibe. That being said though, would take my friend to the stockyards and then go southwest to Granbury, like I did with my cousin from New Hampshire. Even though I don’t know too many places, I would like to also explore and experience new places with that friend, that way it’s a first for the both of us.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
For sure, thanking family and friends for support. My father for really pushing me to live my dream and change my career path. There’s not many parents I hear who would push their kids towards an artistic career path over an education or medical career path and be supportive and proud of them. He knew I was unhappy and still just trying my hardest to get some degree in surg tech, struggling with school. I had my art business on the side for years at that time, and he asked me if I was actually happy doing what I’m doing then put an ultimatum and time frame for me to figure out what I really wanted to do. I only needed a day and changed my major to design communications. Best decision in my life and it lead me to expanding on my business in ways I did not think possible.
