We had the good fortune of connecting with Victoria Aguwa and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Victoria, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I believe that the most important factor that has contributed to the success of my brand is the support of my friends and family. They’ve helped build my confidence when it comes to running my business and charging what I’m worth, while also serving as some of my first customers!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My line of work is baking cakes that are custom made and unique for my customers. I love doing vintage style heart cakes, but also love to be challenged with new ideas. What sets me apart is that, I’m a young self-taught baker and I’ve learned all that I know through trial and error. I’ve also made my own name and following through hard work and networking. Im most proud of my progress when it comes to my design and the flavor profile that I’ve gotten to experiment with. I’m extremely excited to make new flavors and try new forms of art work. In terms of getting to where I am today God gave me a passion, which I love. Started baking and loved it. I thought that other people might as well, from there I reached out to friends and family to get my cakes out. I stared with cupcakes of all the flavor combinations as samplers and from there I created my cliental list. When I first started it was hard to get my name out let alone getting people to take me seriously, so no I didn’t think it was going to be easy but I did think with hard work and dedication I could definitely get somewhere. Some things I’ve learned are that if I was serious about it then I’d have to be stern in a lot of my decision making, that included how I handled my orders and my rules for ordering. I want people to know that even if you don’t think you can, you actually can. It just takes a lot of hard work!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For breakfast we’d have to do Yolk and Breakfast Brothers. For lunch, I’d suggest Lola’s Kitchen, Sweet Georgia Brown, and Pepper’s Street Tacos. For fun activities I’d suggest riding scooters in Downtown Dallas, Clyde Warren Park, and Cidercade. For dinner, I’d do Ka Thai, Moxies, and YardBird. For a chill night out I’d suggest Double D’s.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To my family for always pushing and supporting me throughout my journey!
