We had the good fortune of connecting with Victor & Jealena Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Victor & Jealena, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
We wanted to do something that made us happy. We wanted to not have to wake up and go to “work” and to be able to grow something for our children.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets us apart with our art is that our optics are done with natural light. In a setting outside where you are most calm. Our paints are hand made in house and used as our medium. We got here by selling ourselves. That is all we have to offer. Putting ourselves out there and taking a chance in ourself. Some days it was tough and we would give up completely. Other days we had the motivation to conquer the world. Lessons we learned along the way is that what works for some will not work for you. Also to stop comparing yourself to others. We had issues with comparing ourselves with people who were where we want to be. Instead we made it a goal to get to that level and although our goals have not all been met, they will be. Our brand is our name. We are just expressin art anyway we can. If that is through photography, painting, pottery and more we are expressin it. We are here to create the habit we want to be remembered for.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First I would take them to is for breakfast at Sienna Cafe in Irving, TX. Then we would hang out at the African American Museum of Dallas. I would also like for them to visit LoLo’s in southlake. Of course Pinstack and a few parks. For breakfast another day we would visit Doughboys donuts in Fort Worth, TX. Of course we have to visit Whiskers Fish and Burgers. Visit the Aquarium and enjoy time with them. Maybe even visit Val’s cheesecake if they are open.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out our children. They are the ones who keep us going. Children are honest and if we did a painting or a photoshoot and it wasn’t good they would tell us. I would also like to shoutout Whitney Jackson, the founder and owner of 1st Class Styles. Her and I sat down in 2018 and talked about our goals and we made them reality.
