We had the good fortune of connecting with Vic Robles and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vic, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Growing up I had a fascination with cameras. In high school, I took photography classes. This was back then before digital cameras were around. We learned how to develop film and photos of things that we shot for assignments. I remember the first time being in a dark room and watching the magic of an image that I took just come to life. Well, it wasn’t magic, it was the process of chemicals revealing the light that was exposed to photographic paper. But it was there in the red glow of that room that I fell in love with photography. Being able to capture something and bring it to life was truly something exciting. Since then, throughout the years I’ve continued to grow my skill set, taking photography classes in college, shooting for various school events, and working as an intern for a local photography studio.
I studied marketing at Texas Christian University and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration. As I began my professional career, I still dabbled in photography and media as a hobby and occasionally worked as a contractor for a sports photography company. I have shot various events ranging from weddings, parties, concerts, sports, real estate, portraits, and landscapes. A couple of other passions of mine are fitness and music. As a musician and fitness coach, I enjoy capturing moments of people bringing joy to others through music or bettering themselves through health and fitness.
I work full-time as a senior account manager for a marketing agency. And although I work with a lot of other creative teams (designers, photographers, social media managers), I found myself still wanting to create content of my own. I found that starting my own business as a content creator has allowed me to scratch my creative itch. At the beginning of 2023 along with the encouragement from my beautiful fiancé Jenni, I decided to pursue this new endeavor as a side hustle and created Vic Rob Media. So far the response has been incredible. I’m also very grateful for the support of my friends and family who initially helped in sharing my work and hiring me for their own needs. Can’t wait for what the future holds!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being a musician, as well as a fitness enthusiast I enjoy shooting live concerts and sporting/fitness-related events. Even though I’ve covered a wide variety of styles, I enjoy the challenge of capturing moments as they happen. Several elements make this style of photography challenging. For example, anticipating the action in a sporting event, freezing the moment of a play, and in a concert setting, a big challenge is the lighting. It’s always changing, so you have to make adjustments on the fly to make sure you get the best image possible. I’m fortunate enough to have a client that combines both elements. I shoot for a local fitness studio weekly and they combine both elements, concert lighting, and fitness. It’s almost like a club-type environment. Sometimes the light hits a person just right and makes for a great shot. I’ve always been someone who likes to work behind the scenes and I find that this type of environment helps people forget that the camera is there so you get to catch them in their element.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Depending on the time of year, I would recommend going to catch a game of any of the major sports teams in the area, and of course my favorite, TCU football. They had an incredible season last year and I plan on catching every home game this season. As for food, there are many great spots in Fort Worth and surrounding areas. Just outside of FW, you can find Del Norte Tacos in Godley, TX. Jenni and I like to go there a few times during the summer to catch some live music and great food. Their brisket tacos are incredible. Fort Worth also has one of the best zoos and some of the best museums in the country making a great day outing for families. If you are active like me, you can hit up the miles of paved and unpaved trails along the Trinity River.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am a big believer in personal development. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to attend several personal development seminars and have even been invited as a guest speaker to some. I’m also a big fan of motivational quotes. However, success in any form doesn’t just rely on motivation. It requires discipline, accountability, and goal setting. I also believe that to succeed you should always be learning and growing your skillset and your social network (business and personal). Throughout my personal and professional career, there have been several mentors that I’ve looked up to and learned from. My parents played a huge role in that growing up and instilling in me the values of working hard and not giving up when things get difficult.
As for who deserves credit and recognition in my story? Right now, it would be my fiance Jenni. Over the past several years, she has been a bright light in my life and one of the main reasons I started this new endeavor. It helps that we are both like-minded in many areas of our life, including what I like to call the 4 F’s, Faith, Family, Fitness, and Finances. Throughout the day, you can often find us messaging each other little notes of encouragement, motivational quotes, or bible verses. I hope that everyone can have someone in their life like I do to encourage them and love them as she does for me.
