We had the good fortune of connecting with Vannesa Goytia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vannesa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I remember being into makeup since a little girl. I would just feel a bit more confident and just thought it was a different form of art and expression. However the idea of pursuing makeup and turning it into a business started when i was 20 years old. I graduated in 2015 from high school and I gave college a try and i just knew it wasn’t for me. I felt I was doing it because everyone around me is telling me that’s what you’re suppose to do. But I gave that up within a year and i got a job full time. After work i would go home and just do makeup looks for fun, like a hobby.
I would always be on instagram and you see the girls posting the makeup looks, the videos on how they achieved the look and even client pics and I’m like dang! Girls really out here paying more than money for makeup ! I’m like well, people do have events and no one wants to do their own makeup or maybe don’t know how to. That was a little motivation that i needed.
I however am a big over-thinker so I tend to stay in my head a lot but something was telling me “if they can, you can too.” So I began looking for a beauty school. I came across a page in my area that offered a course and i went ahead and enrolled. After that experience it really motivated me to begin my business in the beauty industry. I’d say it was just a hobby turned into a business.

Work life balance: how has your balance changed over time? How do you think about the balance?

Learning to balance my time has changed throughout the years. Becoming a mom has really intensified me planning ahead and really managing my time throughout the day. You have to be able to balance your personal and work life and being able to create your own schedule makes that so much easier. I am able to schedule my makeup clients and appointments throughout the afternoon or whatever work best for me to accommodate my daughter’s priorities and to spend time with her of course. It also important to add time for yourself so you’re not overwhelmed with everything going on it’s always good to have some me time where you can regrow and be ready to handle all you tasks that needs to get done.

Why did you pursue an artistic or creative career? I genuinely just enjoyed applying makeup. I would watch endless YouTube videos and videos on instagram just learning and practicing. Doing my makeup and listening to music became therapeutic. I started to love the different looks you could create, the different products just everything about it. I feel like i just enjoyed it and grew a love for the art with out knowing it.

What is the most important factor behind your success / the success of your brand?

I would say my motivation and my daughter, she drives my motivation to get up everyday and be better. Waking up to her and knowing she depends on me pushes me to be as productive as i can and that helps my success come. I feel like you have to be productive and consistent brings success.

How do you define success?

I feel like as long as you are pursuing your passion and dream you are already successful. Success to me isn’t about the awards or money. As long as I’m waking up healthy to do what i love and I’m enjoying it, I’m already successful. Once you have passion for what you’re doing and you’re doing everything because you genuinely love it, everything else comes right behind it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe my energy sets me apart from others. I’m a really easy going person , I always try to make others feel as comfortable as possible. Creating a welcoming and safe environment for my clients to feel at home and just make them feel good about themselves! Honestly, I’ve learned that consistency is key. The more you keep working and putting your mind to something you can start seeing it become reality! We all have bad days but you have to be whiling to keep going and not get discouraged.
I’m just a girl from pleasant grove that finally got out of her head and started believing in her self. Started with a hobby and it turned into a business. My favorite part of being a makeup artist is the clients reaction at the end of the appointment. The way they smile and look genuinely happy with my work makes it the best feeling. Once you find passion in what you do it’s not work. If i can do it anyone can and for me it was makeup but it’s just about finding what makes you happy. Life is better that way. I can’t wait to see the growth i have to do and what the future holds

How does your business help the community or the world ? What i hope my business is bringing to the community is motivation to anyone that has been wanting to be an entrepreneur! No matter where you come from we can all do it! It’s amazing seeing our community with all of our small and big self owned businesses. It’s a great feeling seeing the same people from the community making business to benefit our community!

I give back to my high school as well i offer free makeup application for the girls at the school because i know what it was like wanting to get your makeup done for prom or graduation and not having the funds to do it.

When booking my service I want you to have a great experience for you to feel comfortable with the glam and it be a confidence boost and if you aren’t content i will do my best to change that!

It’s amazing doing why you love for your community and never it feeling like work.

I hope more people are motivated to just begin the business you’ve been thinking of!

How do you think about risk, what role has risks played in your life/career?

Risk is daily honestly, l feel like you have to take risks all throughout your life. Even something as simple as driving is a risk. Of course when you start a business you begin thinking about the risks that can happen and honestly you just gotta be aware of them and handling it the best you can.

I’ve taken risk all my life when i first graduated high school i moved to California for 3 years i felt like that was a big risk for me , an unknown place. You begin thinking what if this or that but honestly your faith in yourself pushes you because after those 3 years i moved back to Dallas.

It was the faith in myself that pushed me and go me to start my business and take it serious aside of all the things that can go bad or risks. Your confidence in your self and the love for your business will keep you in it. Although it’s not perfect and easy but the hard-work, confidence and faith you have will bring that business to success.

How to know whether to keep going or to give up? I feel like I’ve had many moments where i wanted to give up but i just know i wouldn’t be put through something i couldn’t get through. It a happens for a reason and you have to push yourself through and do it! I feel like mentally when you’re ready to give up and your heart tells you to keep going you have to! It’s okay to have bad days or take a break but never just give up on something you love doing!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I saw it had changed some of the questions. I actually feel like this is more related to me.

If you are a parent, what do you think is the most important thing you’ve done as a parent in terms of the impact on your children?

I’m a mother to a beautiful 1 year old baby girl named Arya. I think she’s still really small to know. Although i know just me being her mom and her safe spot is an impact because she depends on me. Right now she’s in that age where anything we do she try’s to copy. We work on affirmations, routine and positive habits this will have a big impact in her life . I think this just helps her be more confident and a healthy positive mindset is always best. However i feel like me following my dreams will be the biggest impact on her, i wanna teach her to follow her dreams and do whatever it is that makes her happy she’ll have my endless support in whatever she chooses to do with her life .
