We had the good fortune of connecting with Valeria Campos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Valeria, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I am a first-generation Mexican-American woman. Both my parents came to the United States from Mexico and became successful entrepreneurs. They both had always encouraged me to start a business and learn from my experiences. I worked in the pet-care industry for a few years before I started Peaceful Paws Dallas. In those years I took notes about what most corporations were doing and more importantly weren’t doing for their customers. Peaceful Paws Dallas is just a combination of both, filling a gap that pet guardians wanted to be filled.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the owner of Peaceful Paws Dallas, which means I have one of the greatest jobs in the world! We offer in-home visits, which is basically pet sitting for clients who go out of town. We also offer behavioral consulting for clients who haven’t had luck with trainers and unfortunately do not have the money to spend on a clinical behaviorist. I have been blessed to grow my business over the last few years by just focusing on connecting with our clients and their pet parents. We do this by keeping the client updated with texts and pictures while they are away from their fur babies and also by taking on clients that are guardians to troubled dogs that cannot be boarded. Early on I was fortunate enough to work with Readivet, a mobile-vet service, and their customers. This introduced me to all kinds of pet parents and all kinds of pets. Even spiders and goats! The biggest lesson I have learned has been that you have to have passion for your business because there will be hard seasons in everything you do but being passionate and proud of what you have built will get you through it.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spot to grab food is hands down Project Pollo in Dallas off of Greenville Avenue. Honorable mentions have to go to Nunos Tacos (get the quesadillas!) and Reverie Bake Shop. I could spend HOURS in Half Price Books in Dallas and La La Land Kind Cafe. Food, books, and dogs are basically my whole life.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shoutout our friends at Helpful Hearts, Anita and Delbert. They really helped me when I first started Peaceful Paws. Also, Dr. Clemmett of Readivet was one of my first clients and has always shown so much support.
