We had the good fortune of connecting with Tucker Mullens and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tucker, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I can sum up what I believe to be the two most important factors to success in my business or to any business for that matter: Your “why” and your people. People can accomplish the impossible with the right motivation and the right reasons. For my business, my “why” is to build a future for my family and offering an opportunity for the people who work with my company to better themselves. There is no greater calling in this life than to take care of your family and to help others. I believe creating a culture within my organization where the people who work for us all know that they are cared for, treated well, trained, challenged, held to a high standard and compensated well for their hard work, is the key to growth and providing exceptional service to our clientele.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I spent a little over 11 years at my former company learning everything from sales, hiring, management, customer relations, and how to open and grow new locations. I believe this experience gave me the confidence to go out on my own and start my own company.

My Company is called Everything Outdoors. The idea was simple, throughout my upbringing, I learned to do may outdoor related jobs, ranging from tree work, landscaping, hardscaping and other building and construction related jobs. So I thought that opening a company that could help people with all aspects of their outdoors and outdoor living areas would make their lives easier only having to call one company who could do it all for them and make their outdoor spaces beautiful.

The challenges with starting a new business were tough, but I believe at some point you have to believe in yourself enough to face the unknown and just make it happen. Usually the fear of something is much worse than the actual reality of it. Most of the obstacles we run into as business owners can be overcome and end up becoming strengths and we wonder later on why we didn’t just start sooner!

Our brand at Everything Outdoors will be all about people. Not just our customers, but the ones who work with us. Treating people well, making them feel valued, challenged and appreciated will translate to growth and both a happy workforce and clientele. We intend to create some of the most beautiful and unique landscapes and outdoor living spaces in the DFW area and we will strive every day to achieve that goal!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Wow, where to begin! The Fort Worth area has so much rich history and so much fun. You could spend weeks here and barely cover the tip of the iceberg. Of course there are the Historic Stock Yards, filled with rich Texas history, we have Museums of natural history as well and modern and classical art museums. The Zoo is nationally recognized, the Golf courses are stellar, the food is amazing (Craft BBQ, Amazing Farm to Table, Texas Cuisine, Seafood, and more!) The parks along the river walk and Sundance Square downtown. The nightlife off 7th street and the Bass Hall Performance Theatre. The list goes on!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I can pinpoint the origins and backbone of my success to a couple people. I would love to recognize my wife, Erin, for being supportive, and trusting me to take this leap and pursue my dream, even at the expense of putting her own goals and dreams on hold for now. And I would like to thank my close friend, former boss and mentor, Nathan Doran, Owner of KP Staffing, for allowing me the opportunity to gain all of the necessary experience and confidence while I worked with him the last 10+ years. He is not only still a close friend and a mentor, but also a supporter of my new business.
