We had the good fortune of connecting with Trish Perdue and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Trish, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
I believe consistency in the styles that I love and appreciate really has made the difference in my success. Styles come and go, trends, even habits, but I remain committed to the southern florals and styles that I love. Even when the trends seem to lean towards more modern cleaner looks, I have remained true to what I love and that which inspires me. Roses, hydrangeas, peonies, and southern style urns and containers. My color palette always leans towards magenta, hot pink, turquoise blue, and sage floral designs. These are also the colors that I love to wear in my personal style.. my closet is filled with bright and fun colors, as well as many pearl necklaces, bracelets, and earrings.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe that my style is a reflection of my early beginnings in Virginia. I grew up very close to colonial Williamsburg, and on the water of the East Coast. It truly allowed to experience incredible styles and diversity. After I was married I had the privilege of living in five different states. Virginia, South Carolina North Carolina, Texas, New York, and a move back to Texas which is permanent. While transplanting to different states can be very challenging, it did allow me to experience different styles and vegetations. The greatest lesson I have learned is to be true to your style and what you love. I believe it’s impossible to try to be all things for everyone, especially when it comes to personal style and taste. I stay focused on my vision and mission with Stewart house collections. i’ve also learned that just because an opportunity comes along doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the right opportunity for my business. I also have no problem recommending another design service if I’m not confident or comfortable in the styles in which a client has requested. I believe there’s enough room in the world for all kinds of design businesses. I’ve also learned that you cannot become what you cannot define. Knowing your style and where you can be the most creative is incredibly important. I truly listen to a customer when they’re making a request. I observe their style, color choices, and even ask what they don’t like. I also use high-quality flowers that look and feel real. The different textures and colors always create an incredible arrangement.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, the first thing everyone wants to do is get tex-Mex. there are so many incredible places in the metroplex to take them. We will probably go to the stockyards in Fort Worth and enjoy that area and history. And then eat in downtown Fort Worth at Joe T. Garcia. A trip to Dallas is always a must as well. Going to the Kennedy museum seems to be always requested. We would hit some of the incredible shops off of Knox and Henderson. We would then finish off the evening at Café Pacific and Highland Park. Spending a day in Southlake would also be a must. We have an incredible town Square and some yummy restaurants. That would allow them to get familiar with where I live and what I enjoy. If time permits a wonderful trip to Fredericksburg with a few overnight stays would be a must.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My neighbor Kelly, when I was a little girl, in Virginia. She had a yard full of flowers, Beautiful containers, and all kinds of incredible ivy/berries. I went to her home almost every single day to smell the flowers in her yard and watch her make beautiful arrangements. I remember that she was very kind and very feminine. It all began in her yard amazed by her floral gardens. My brother-in-law, Brandon Stewart, also plays a vital role in The success of Stewart house collections. He has brought in some wonderful home items such as customize tea towels, homemade ornaments for Christmas trees, garden flags, etc. I decided to use the name Stewart house collections because that was my maiden name. I also have a wonderful circle of friends that support and encourage me. These wonderful ladies are my tribe and they have done all they can to encourage me to do what I love. All of the people mentioned above played a vital role in the success of Stewart house collections. I have been incredibly blessed by those that have walked alongside me and mentored/encouraged me.
