We had the good fortune of connecting with Trayche’l Burgess and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Trayche’l, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Honestly, I was freaked out being it was right after covid shut the world down that I got my licensure and in school I never saw myself going out on my own. I just love the atmosphere and camaraderie of authentic beauty salons, but the places I saw myself working in I guess didn’t see me working there; but all in all God had other plans for me. I started off doing ShearShare on the weekends, where I would rent out a space and take clients. I did that for about a month when I was offered a permanent space at a location I rented and I just jumped in.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Tresses Too Impress is a boutique beauty salon that provides services for all hair types and textures. When we think about meeting someone new or walking past someone on the street, or at a table in a restaurant, Hair is one of the very first things you notice (Tresses). When we think about someone after first meeting them you remember what made an impression, what stuck out to you. I am in the business of making women feel impressive, beautiful, and confident with the one thing that every woman takes serious, her hair. Whether your goal is to grow longer and/ or enhance with hair color or extensions, we can achieve all while maintaining the health and integrity of your hair. In this business, I’m still not where I want to be but I only started 14 months ago. Nothing about being in business for yourself is easy but its incredibly fulfilling.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I wish I could answer this question with something amazing and fun lol but the truth is I’m kind of a work-a-holic and a homebody. I rarely go out anywhere just to go out. But my love language is dressing up just to go to brunch or go out to eat at a restaurant and drink. I love to eat lol. I frequent Pappadeaux, always down for seafood.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
If it wasn’t for me assisting Kierra Taylor, now Houston Hair Colorists and Educator, for a year while I was in cosmetology school I would not know what I know and be able to do what I can do. Ive always had a knack for hair even as a kid, I was the one in my family that did everyones hair. I went to school for the licensure, I had the talent, but she showed me skills and I’m forever grateful for that.
