We had the good fortune of connecting with toshi salvino and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi toshi, why did you pursue a creative career?
I persue a creative career for the same reason many others do – I just feel compelled to create and want to live the most authentic life possible. While it can be difficult and leads to frequent changes, I enjoy the process of trying everything and seeing what feels right.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art covers sort of a variety of things, from digital art to handmade accessories, stickers, and wigs but I’m mostly known for being a Living Art Doll. Meaning I use fashion and makeup, myself as the canvas, to create characters and bring diffrent versions of myself to the world.

This began simply as my passion but lead to working as an interactive actress, ambiance dancer, model, and makeup artist. . . It’s been extremely challenging doing so many diffrent types of jobs but I love the experiences I am so lucky to have and communities I get to be a part of.

I’ve learned how important community is over everything else, how we uplift each other and support each other… seeing other indie brands blossom from something small is a really great feeling.

I want the world to know that anything is possible, whether you believe in yourself or not, there’s someone out there who believes in you to make it happen. It just takes initiative !

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of my favorite places in Dallas would have to be Dallas Pin Up in Deep Ellum for cute vintage style shopping, Kura Sushi for a fun dining experience and hit up Somisomi for ice cream after! Maybe walk around at the AT&T center or check out the Giant Eyeball sculpture. 👁️

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I know countless artists who inspire me every day with their dedication and perseverance, but I specifically would like to shout out my partner Jeremy, who encouraged me and showed me the steps of how to make my merchandise and eyelash line a reality. Seeing him run his own art business (The Pin Stash) inspired me and proved that as long as you have passion and a niche you can turn a dream or idea into a tangible thing.
