Meet Sophia Deahl | Functional Medicine Dietitian & Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sophia Deahl and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sophia, what matters most to you?
Community matters most to me because it represents the essence of connection, support, and shared purpose. In my personal and professional life, I’ve seen how powerful it is when people come together—whether to uplift each other, exchange ideas, or create something meaningful. Community is not just about proximity but about being surrounded by those who inspire you to grow, keep you accountable, and celebrate your wins, both big and small.
In the work I do, especially within functional medicine, I realize that healing and wellness thrive when people feel seen and supported. We’re not meant to navigate life or challenges in isolation, and the right community—whether it’s practitioners sharing insights or clients building sustainable health habits together—can make transformation attainable. That’s why I founded the Functional Collective. I wanted to create a space where individuals can connect, learn, and thrive in ways that fuel their longevity and wellness journeys with the power of community.
At its core, community cultivates resilience. It reminds us that we are stronger when we collaborate, share struggles, and lift each other up.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business spans several areas that I’m deeply passionate about, all centered around helping people live healthier, more vibrant lives.
First, there’s my private practice, where I work one-on-one with clients to address the root causes of their symptoms through personalized nutrition, lifestyle changes, and functional medicine. I specialize in areas like gut health, hormones, autoimmunity, and detoxification. It’s incredibly rewarding to watch clients transform into healthier, happier versions of themselves and develop sustainable habits that last a lifetime.
Then there’s The Functional Collective, a wellness community I’ve built to bring together like-minded individuals and practitioners. It offers public events, expert panels, and opportunities for collaboration, with a focus on fitness, longevity, and wellness. I created it because private practice can be isolating, and I wanted to foster a space where we can learn and grow together. This community has been a game-changer, not only for me but for everyone involved.
On top of that, I work as a strategic and clinical partner at Wholesome Grub, a personalized meal platform and technology company, where I blend my passion for functional nutrition with real-world applications. I provide strategic insights and clinical expertise to develop offerings that align with our shared mission of making nourishing, personalizable food more accessible. It’s exciting to work with a team that shares my vision and to have the opportunity to shape meaningful health solutions on a broader scale.
Getting to this point hasn’t always been easy—it’s been full of challenges, especially in balancing multiple roles and navigating the ups and downs of entrepreneurship. But the lessons I’ve learned along the way have been invaluable. I’ve realized the importance of community, collaboration, and staying aligned with my core mission of helping others thrive. What I want the world to know about my brand and story is that I’m committed to transformation. Whether it’s working with clients one-on-one, building community through The Functional Collective, or collaborating with Wholesome Grub, everything I do is focused on empowering people to take control of their health and create sustainable change.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting I would plan a fun, balanced weekend with my favorite spots!
Day 1
Morning: We’d start the day with a workout at O2 Life to get our bodies moving and start the day feeling strong.
Mid-Morning: Afterward, we’d go upstairs to Alive and Well for a sauna. The space has such a great vibe!
Brunch: Brunch would be at Sadelle’s or Rose Cafe at the Terminal.
Afternoon: We’d take a walk along the Katy Trail to soak up some fresh air, and for lunch, we’d grab a bowl from Sweetgreen.
Evening: For dinner, we’d head to Bowen House or Mister Charles and enjoy a great meal paired with a glass of red wine—perfect way to end the day!
Day 2
Morning: Depending on how we’re feeling, we’d either do a sound bath at Alive and Well (so relaxing) or run with the 214 Run Club.
Breakfast & Coffee: Afterward, we’d grab breakfast and coffee from Berkley Market.
Afternoon: We’d take Remy, my dog, for a walk around White Rock Lake and do a picnic—it’s one of my favorite places to unwind!
Dinner: To wrap up the trip, we’d have dinner at either HG Supply Co. or Sachet.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
