Meet Tony Ramey | Singer-Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tony Ramey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tony, what do you attribute your success to?
Success is a loaded word. Everyone’s definition is a bit different. Set your own goals, long and short, and be satisfied in your fulfillment of those goals. If success means that your doing music on your terms, on your time, then enjoy your success. Don’t let the amount of money you earn at your craft define how successful you are. I have made a lot of money writing songs, and it was during that period I was the most unhappy at my craft. Once I let “money” goals go, I began to love working again, and making enough to pay bills!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I was writing songs when I didn’t know why I was writing them. The act itself was instinctive. The next song I haven’t written yet is always the one that creates the most anxiety. And you’re only as good as your last song, no matter how many ways you look at it. The challenge with songwriting is finding your own reasons to go on, because the world and everyone around you, no matter how they try, won’t give any good enough to keep you going. Read _The War Of Art_ by Stephen Pressfield and keep it on your night stand next to the Bible. Oh, and read the second one to keep you grounded when the success takes you higher than you ever thought you’d go.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Six Springs Tavern is the most genuine music venue in the Dallas and outlying areas. The owners understand the importance of creatives and musicians, and they go beyond to support all things original. Brad and Kerry are the last few remaining troubadours of music venue owners. I would hang there all evening and introduce them to the diamonds of Dallas.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Family, friends, and the people who believed in me when I had nothing going are the ones I remember the most. Tom Collins was the first publisher who believed in me before I did anything in the music business. It’s those people you want to cling to along your journey. Don’t jump from one promise to another; the true believers are always the ones who’ll be honest and supportive, and cling to you when you dip into your valleys—and trust me, you will dip into those valleys no matter how successful you become.
