We had the good fortune of connecting with Tom Lail and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tom, how do you think about risk?
Risk is necessary to design the life people day dream about having. Taking calculated risks to get what you desire, seems to be the only way to make things happen. Before I opened my Management Company and my Fitness gym, I would ask myself over and over again, can I live without these things in my life? If the answer was no, I can’t live without them, I would purse them relentlessly. Taking any risks financially, emotionally and spiritually to achieve opening the businesses, and becoming successful in them was the driving force. Risks equal rewards.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I own 2 businesses, True Guard Property Management and Fort Worth Strong, a Fitness Gym. Both were built on setting the tone for an incredible Client and Company relationship. Building a relationship revolving around a service offered is more enjoyable when both client and company have mutual respect for one another, but also start with getting to know one another on a personal level during the on-boarding process. It’s not hard for me to call many of my clients friends because of the way we speak to each other about things outside of business. The secret to success is make too many friends. Finding this out wasn’t easy being an introverted person most of my life. Picking up books to self educate myself on personal growth and development helped me reach out to people on new levels as friends and clients that I never thought possible. It wasn’t until I spent hours upon hours working on myself, did I truly break out in business.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If we have 1 week in Fort Worth, TX, we would start our mornings off with a walk downtown to the best coffee spot in Fort Worth, Bongiorno. Our lunches would be spent eating at places like Poke Poke, Paco’s Mexican cuisine and having a drink or 3 at places like the Lazy Moose or The Usual. Catching a comedy act at Hyenas or watching a drive in Movie at Coyote Drive in would be an incredible entertainment experience. In between eating and entertainment, it would be impossible to avoid a work out. Elemental Yoga on magnolia ave would have to be visited at-least 2 times for a relaxing and meditative yoga experience. Taking a night bike ride, with the Night Riders of Fort Worth through the city and park would definitely be on the list of things to do.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout my parents. As I grew up and met more and more people, I found it more common that people grew up in broken and divorced households. For 35 years they’ve stayed true to themselves and each other, which allowed me to model myself after. I am truly grateful to have been brought up in a loving home. Although we never grew up wealthy, I always felt rich with love, even to this day.
