We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffany Qualls Jo Denman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiffany Qualls, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
So initially I can’t say the goal was to go into business but it came to my mom, Jo Denman, in a dream, which at that point she reached out to me and gave me all the details. Mind you, I myself had been making fried meat pies for work potlucks and even had a few orders outside of work events.

Well my mom said in this dream the vision was clear and she would be making the sweet pies and I would continue with the savory (meat) pies. All I could say was mom you’re’ crazy if you think you can make fried pies like granny (her mother), who we call Momma dear.

Needless to say we immediately jumped on the opportunity, starting with a tent and a couple of fryers, and entered our first festival, “Christmas on the Square,” in Crockett Tx, which sold out within hours. This remains so special because it catapulted my mom and I into entrepreneurship and the development of Scrumptious Fried Pies and Pastries.

From that day on our thought process was if you build it they will come. We had no idea how we would make this happen, all we had was our faith and a verse dear to our hearts, Proverbs 29 :18, “Where there is no vision the people perish but he better keepeth the law happy is he.”

Moving forward, we continued to work festivals and carnivals and built our trailer from the ground up over the years by keeping our faith in our brand, “Scrumptious Fried Pies and Pastries.”

Throughout the pandemic it has not been easy. Thankfully we’ve been able to get back into the full swing of things and we’re able to participate in the, “Eighter In Decatur Food Truck Challenge,” “The Food Truck Championship of Texas, and we can’t forget to mention our home town of Terrell Tx, which hosted, “The Terrell Heritage Jubilee” and a plethora or other festivals and events.

As I look back now I see the business plan was Gods plan all along and it was up to my mother and myself to have faith and execute accordingly because we were already being prepared for everything we’ve accomplished up to this point.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My mom has worked in retail as a store manager over 20 years and myself I have worked in healthcare the past 19 years. We have always had to have amazing customer service when
working in our line of work and that has really helped us along the way when serving customers from our food Trailer.
It has taken us a few years to build our brand and no it was not easy, persistence and faith is a major key and working with my mom daily I wouldn’t trade it for the world !

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Our favorite spot to hang out in Texas is In Laporte Tx they has a nice beach And a few miles away you will
Find Kemah Boardwalk with rides,, entertainment and a lot of activities for small children. A really cool and fun destination.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
