We had the good fortune of connecting with Thy Roids and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Thy, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
THYROIDS did not choose a creative career. A creative career chose THYROIDS. We began playing parties with our friends and just writing music as an expressive and creative outlet for ourselves. The fact that our endeavors are blossoming into a career is solely a product of our raw energy, blisteringly fast pulse and how those translate to our imagery and “brand”.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
THYROIDS makes punk rock for the digital age, and people who saw the end of the analog era. We are most excited about what, and who is still to come, as the scene is ever-changing. Like every band in the scene, we are where we are because of where we are. DFW has a very vibrant and close-knit music scene. It absolutely is not easy to write something you care enough about to pour yourself into, but it’s not hard to be a part of a community, if you’re not a terrible person. The most important lesson we have learned is to not take ourselves too seriously. All work and no play makes THYROIDS a dull güey. We would like people to know THYROIDS’ brand is the sole creation and intellectual property of THYROIDS. It is a product of not succumbing to what others want of us.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would start with breakfast at the Corner Market on Lower Greenville. There you can talk smack with Chuck and get a delicious and reasonably priced grub and the best coffee in town. This followed by a long drive to Goat Island, where you can walk along the strange trails and witness the growth of an industrial empire. Head back up north for a browse of Downtown. The brutalist architecture of city hall juxtaposed to the imaginative design of the Reunion Tower and The Bank of America building make a great backdrop for catching up. From there, you are only a short DART trip from Deep Ellum, where you can do all the best day drinking at Monkey King Noodle Company, Dallas’ most honest establishment. Hop right back on that train and see the whole city from the seat of that LRV. The most interesting people in the city are the ones just out and about doing their daily thing. Just make sure to end up back in Deep Ellum by the end of the night to catch an eclectic show at Three Links or Double Wide (their house specialty cocktails are absolutely to write home about), and Montice is there, get anything, so long as it’s got that baby-making sauce.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Our success is owed to many other people, currently in and out of THYROIDS’ lives. Firstly, we’d like to thank all the people who once asked “How’s your little band doing?” or “There’s the rockstar!” at family gatherings. You are our biggest driving force.
Secondly, all the homies at Dreamy Life Records, BarfWave Records and Turkey Baster Records for seeing our potential and letting us shine in an already well-lit scene.
Lastly, we’d like to thank Mike Jones for still tippin’. (281) 330-8004
