Meet Thu Trinh | ASID Allied | Founder & Principal Designer | Thu Trinh Interiors

We had the good fortune of connecting with Thu Trinh and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Thu, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Honestly, starting Thu Trinh Interiors was a long time coming. I spent years in the financial world, hit pause to raise a family, then worked part-time in healthcare — but design was always tugging at me in the background. I’d help friends and family with their spaces just for fun, and even went back to school for it in 2014, but life was busy and the timing never felt quite right.
Then 2020 happened. We were all stuck at home, staring at the same four walls, and I thought — why not finally do this? So I used the quiet moments to lay the groundwork and start small. Before long, people were calling me for help updating their homes, and it clicked: this wasn’t just a passion, it was something people truly needed. Starting a business mid-pandemic wasn’t exactly the plan, but in hindsight, it was the perfect moment to build something meaningful from the ground up.

What should our readers know about your business?
Thu Trinh Interiors is all about creating spaces that feel like home — not just stylish, but personal and meaningful. I work closely with my clients to design spaces that reflect their story, their lifestyle, and what feels right to them.
The Dallas design scene is full of amazing talent, so I don’t take it lightly when someone chooses to work with me. I’ve been lucky to have my work recognized at the local, state, and national level, which is exciting — but honestly, nothing beats seeing a client light up when their space comes together.
Building the business definitely had its challenges. I’ve learned how important it is to set clear expectations early on and keep communication open throughout the process. You don’t need to have all the answers right away — you just need to show up, do the work, and earn your client’s trust.
More than anything, I want people to know that I care deeply about what I do. If you work with me, I’ll treat your space like it’s my own — and my goal is always to create something that feels true to you.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my bestie came to visit, we’d basically eat and sip our way through Dallas — no shame in that! We’re both big foodies and equally obsessed with coffee, matcha, and boba, so our days would definitely start with caffeine and a snack (or two).
We’d kick things off in Knox/Henderson and Highland Park Village — two of my go-to spots for coffee, brunch, and a little “accidental” shopping. There’s such a great mix of food and fashion, and the people-watching is top tier.
We’d definitely swing by Klyde Warren Park, grab something fun from the food trucks, and maybe even attempt a relaxed picnic moment… until the Texas heat sends us running for the nearest indoor spot with A/C and iced drinks.
As much as we love the trendy, Instagrammable restaurants (and there are plenty), we both have a soft spot for the hidden gems — especially the small, family-owned spots that serve comfort food with heart. One of my absolute favorites — a place that served the best Peking duck — sadly closed after years in the neighborhood. We still talk about that duck, and yes, I’m 100% on a mission to find a worthy replacement.
In between meals, we’d check out a museum, maybe catch some live music, and of course leave plenty of time for lounging, laughing, and having those long, wandering conversations that only happen with your favorite people. The itinerary’s flexible — as long as it includes great food, good vibes, and a little adventure.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to start with my husband — he’s been my biggest supporter from day one. He encouraged me to go for this dream even when it felt scary, and I’m so grateful for his constant belief in me.
I also want to give a shout out to ASID (American Society of Interior Designers). I joined back when I was still in school, and they’ve been such a great source of support, mentorship, and community ever since.
And of course, my amazing clients. Every person who’s trusted me with their home has played a huge part in this journey. Creating spaces where people live and make memories is such an honor — I truly wouldn’t be here without them.
