We had the good fortune of connecting with Thalita May and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Thalita, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I like to think that taking risks is very important as long as one is still very wise about which risks they’re taking. I guess I can say that risk-taking has made one of the biggest impacts on my life, as I decided to leave my hometown in Brazil, along with absolutely everything and everyone that was familiar to me, and move to the US back in 2014 to learn English as a second language. Risk-taking shaped who I am today, and the rest is history.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been doing photography for 3 years now and it is truly something that sets my heart on fire. Recently, I’ve been working really hard on my craft. I feel like I have finally found an editing/shooting style that really speaks to me and to who I am as a person. A little hint of nostalgia and warmth, the kind that makes you feel fuzzy inside when looking at a photo, is how I would describe it. My biggest inspirations are music, people, and old movies! Thinking more outside the box when shooting and taking on a more creative approach has been one of my favorite things lately. I like to think, “What would Thalita do?” when posing someone, as I am just as passionate about being in front of the camera as I am about being behind it! I have the most fun when dressing up and getting to model and I love being a part of styled shoots, helping other creatives to bring their dream vision to life.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would probably go sing karaoke, grab some coffee at Roasted Beanery in Midlothian, visit the Dallas Arboretum if it’s spring, or the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens if it’s fall. We could go on a Safari at Fossil Rim and see allllll the amazing animals, see a movie at a drive-in, roller skate at a roller rink, or shop around the Bishop Arts District!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, I would like to give thanks to Jesus for allowing me to be here today, using the gifts He gave me. I also want to thank my husband, Austin, for being my #1 fan and the biggest supporter I could ever have.
And to my family and friends, thank you for always believing in me.
