We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Humphries and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylor, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
Hi, I am Taylor Humphries! I am from Charlotte, NC. I was raised all over the world from Hong Kong, Minnesota to North Carolina. I grew up with one older brother and one younger brother. My parents have always supported us in whatever we wanted to do and encouraged us to explore the world. My mom loves fashion. Seeing her dress up and getting to explore her closet definitely shaped my desire to pursue a career in the fashion industry. One of my first jobs in high school was working as a sales associate at one of my mom and I’s favorite local boutiques. I owe so much to my family and I am proud and blessed to be their daughter and a sister to my brothers.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a fashion content creator in Dallas, TX. I would describe my style as neutral, modern, and elevated. I enjoy exploring architecture, going to modern museums and styling people for events. I create content with timeless pieces, but also include more trendy pieces from emerging brands. I would say my niche is neutrals and my toxic trait is my obsession for handbags. I am most proud of my followers. I work hard replying to everyone, commenting and creating a community on my platform.
Getting to where I am today was definitely challenging. At the beginning, the biggest challenge was myself. I was so worried about what other people would think of me. I was terrified to shoot with a tripod. Ultimately, it hurt me, because I wasn’t consistent with posting or creating content. I can’t tell you one specific thing that changed my mindset. I think it was time and a drive for wanting something “that” badly. I still have a long way to go and I am learning everyday, but I am proud of how far I have come. I would encourage other people to keep at it if you are struggling with anxiety over shooting.
Something that has helped me is to create a vision board, practice poses in the mirror, bring props, support others and have fun!
I studied at The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. I have been in the fashion industry for over a decade. I love neutrals, gold jewelry and skincare. I love creating content and hope to create a page you can be inspired from!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love this question! Assuming they get in mid afternoon on Friday. I would take them for lunch at Honor Bar in Highland Park. I love the Macho Salad. After lunch we would window shop around Highland Park. After that, we would get our ears pierced at WILD LIKE (if you are feeling adventurous). Since I live close to The Katy Trail. I would suggest a mid afternoon coffee at Village Baking Co. before hopping on the Katy Trail for a quick walk. Afterwards we would get ready for dinner at Alice. I love this place, its intimate, 80’s vibes and the back turns into a karaoke bar if you stay late enough. If we are up for a night cap I would go to Catbird, a rooftop bar on top of the Thompson Hotel.
Saturday I would grab brunch at Grange Hall or Beverly’s. After which, we would check out what exhibition is going on at The Dallas Contemporary Museum. Then we would make our way to Manhattan Brewery. This brewery has a modern aesthetic, incredible beers and outdoor seating. For dinner I would make reservations at Sister. The best Italian tapas! depending on the mood..if you want dessert I would go to Botolino for gelato. If you want a night cap I would go to Bowen House.
Sunday fun day! I assume they would be catching a flight back. If not I would explore Bishop Arts. This area is super artsy, walkable and lively! I would have brunch at Paradiso or Tribal All Day Cafe.
I hope you love D town!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have so many people to thank for my success. I previously mentioned my family as they have supported me throughout my whole life even when I was, or felt undeserving. My fiancé for taking countless photos of me during the beginning of my social media career, despite his distain for it! My friends for encouraging me to feel confident in my pursuit. Local influencers who took the time to get coffee with me. Chats turned into friendships, which I am grateful for. Content creators around the world that inspire me everyday unintentionally through their creativity, fashion, sense of humor and lifestyle.
I read a quote this year that said “find friends that will talk about you in a room full of important people.” I think that is empowering and something I am cognizant of as well to do for others.
