We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Coleman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taylor, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m from Dallas. My upbringing had a major impact on the person I am today. I credit a lot of owning My own business to my great grandmother, Ruby. There was nothing she couldn’t do. Watching her taught me so much. She packed and sold her own preserves. She even created her own healing medicine that our family still uses to this day.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Nothing worth having in life is easy. When I was a child I wanted to be an architect and I would draw floor plans for my family members and their future “dream homes”. And if I weren’t drawing floor plans I was drawing my favorite cartoons. Eventually, I realized art was a part of me. I enjoyed creating the things I saw in my mind. Being a passionate artist is challenging because I never accept commissions unless I feel it in my heart to do so. I believe art should be respected. I treat My clothing line the same way. I would never create a design that didn’t have meaning or value to me. I can hope that’s what sets me apart from other brands.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spots in the city… Ojedas. I’ve been eating at the Ojedas off Maple Ave since I was a kid. It’s my absolute favorite spot period but the best Mexican food hands down. If you’re looking for good Cajun food. You gotta go to The Freeman. If you’re hungry after a night of drinking, Serious Pizza is always my favorite choice. If you’re wanting a chill vibe, Stirr is a cool spot. My favorite rooftop pool is at the Statler Hotel. Dallas is full of life anywhere you go could result in a good time.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Reading the book “Power Vs Force” by David R. Hawkins really was a turning point in my life. I never realized how the power of my own opinion on life and how it was hindering me until that point. I would suggest anyone read it if they have the chance.
