We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylar Ben and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylar, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process was I didn’t know what I was doing , where I would end up , or even how it would work out for me . I just knew I would want to make good signature cocktails and make People happy . I started my business after I lost my corporate job at that time didn’t know the first thing about starting a business or what I would need to do . Only thing I knew was if I could really put my mind to it I could do it and be successful and as creative as I wanted to be.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My career that I’m currently in is totally different from my business . I’ve currently worked in customer service for atleast 8 years. When most people see me they don’t think that I’m a bartender, I think that what sets me apart from my normal 9-5 Job . I’m normally really to myself at my job only talk to a select few vs at events for my business I’m more outgoing and more laid back and relaxed . The thing that I’m most proud of would have to be my creativity , I would have never thought I’d be decorating bottles, I was never into arts and craft growing up . I also never thought I’d be coming up with signature cocktails for events or even consider myself being a mixologist . How I got to were I’m at now was really just dedication making sure I stay on top of trends and different ideas to keep my customers coming back . For example when I came up with the idea of adding decorative bottles to my brand a lot of people didn’t think it would sale and people love the bottles For events , gifts etc . The process of running a business is definitely not easy, I get discouraged and sometimes I get to the point where I feel like I’m not doing enough , and I’m not making myself proud. However, I take a step back and I reset and realize that everything flows when it’s suppose to and I’m doing exactly what God wants me to do at this time . What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that my brand is only going to get bigger and Keep elevating and it’s not going anywhere so expect to see more of CocktailswithTay!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a friend Vist I’d would definitely take them to a wine tasting place in grapevine Tx called fusion winery or maybe to legacy west in Plano during the week . On the weekend we would definitely go to brunch I love Haywire or Streets Fine Chicken after brunch we would definitely hit up day party in Dallas.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to start by thanking God without him nothing is possible and I wouldn’t have made it this far without the power of prayer. Another person that plays a very important role in my business and definitely wouldn’t be here without her is a very close family friend Shajuana Starks, she’s literally helped me from day one , from coming up with my logo to my ideas , flyers , merchandise etc . when I felt like I couldn’t do it and needed that extra push etc she’s been right by my side . I would also like to thank my family and very close friends for always listening to my ideas , doing taste testing for new drinks and just simply supporting anything I’ve ever came up With.
