We had the good fortune of connecting with Tasha Whitaker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tasha, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
My outlook on work-life balance has changed greatly over the last few years, especially after the pandemic. Earlier in my career I didn’t think about the concept of balance nor did I understand the importance of incorporating that routine into my daily schedule. It used to be all about the hustle and working harder to reach my goals in my career no matter what that looked like, working 60 plus hours, weekends, evenings. Then the pandemic hit and healthcare workers went into even a harder overdrive and that led to burnout and depression. I honestly think we all learned the importance of being still and pressing the pause button, it was needed for everyone. Through the years as I’ve learned more about myself and with my family expanding  the desire to not only teach about wellness, but truly live it and live a life of calm and balance of self care; I realized my practices are essential to my lifestyle for not only me, but how that impacts my family. I think it takes being intentional to truly have a sense of balance, you have to welcome delegating and leading so that it frees your time to make time for the things you desire and for me that’s a sense of incorporating various dimensions of wellness into my life so that I can show up as my best self.

What should our readers know about your business?
Crew Wellness LLC is a Wellness Education Training & Professional Development Company specializing in Community Health Worker Certification and Selfcare For Healthcare Worker Trainings. We train individuals to become certified CHWs in the state of Texas that go on to work in hospitals, community centers and other organizations educating and navigating the resources they need in their community. In 16 weeks you become certified and start a new career impacting people in your community. What sets us apart is we provide Professional Development rooted in wellness for healthcare professionals. We take an approach where we are mindful in the training we develop and teach to also incorporate wellness practices that remind healthcare professionals of the importance of self care as they are serving others. My journey to starting my business was not easy, it takes dedication, persistence, discipline and a hunger to always stay learning. In my industry of professional development, education updates can change at the snap of your finger with new policies, bills, funding and workforce updates and how it affects healthcare workers and the services they provide. I’m always learning and pouring into my self growth so that I can continue to serve better and more efficiently. My knowledge has increased along the way and God aligned me with people and opportunities to help me achieve my goals. One of those opportunities was being selected to the Texas Woman’s University Center For Women Entrepreneurs Accelerator Program where I was able to deep dive more into business fundamentals along with a brilliant advisor and cohort of other business women in Texas. I encourage entrepreneurs to do the work, connect with like minded individuals, collaborate and be intentional with your actions that lead to reaching your goals. Even if you don’t reach the goal you set, learn from the process and keep pressing forward!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love good food and vibes so we would head to True Kitchen and Cocktails for dinner, but i’m also a country girl who loves a good hidden gem so Big Daddy’s in South Dallas for the chicken salad would definitely be on the list for a lunch stop. I’m a lover of outdoors and wellness so we would take a hike at Prayer Mountain or Cedar Ridge Trails and for a fun evening out go dancing and have a nice dinner at one of the many options of DFW happy hour and nightlife. Dallas is very diverse, there is always an event such as a pop up festival, music, comedy or food truck event with great live music so we would certainly have a lot to choose from and that’s one of the things I like about the DFW area.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Family, whom I love so much! I also would like to give a shoutout to Community Health Workers/Promotoras working each day in our communities serving others selflessly. The 1st National CHW Awareness Week is August 28-Sept. 1 and I encourage you to show a CHW in your community some love!
