We had the good fortune of connecting with Tasha and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tasha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Whew…my thought process for starting a nonprofit organization. I started couponing back in 2017, & when I tell you I was really doing something I was really doing it. My stockpile just kept growing & growing, from snacks to household items. One day I realized that I had enough to last my family for quite some time, so why not share with the ones who need it most. That following week I approach my coworkers with my idea and we came up with a game plan. About two weeks after that we walked the streets of Downtown Dallas in the summer heat, with 100 sack lunches and 100 toiletry bags. The feeling I had after that was absolutely beautiful. I had a chance to share my couponing haul, service my community and take my oldest kids on the journey with us. After careful consideration, I submitted my paperwork & Blessings by Nature was established as an official 501(c)(3) in 2018.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I would have to say 2020 & 2021 were our toughest years. During this time, the pandemic was happening, but I also lost faith in something that I put my all into. We did do a few events but not as many as I would have liked. At the end of last year, I was determined that Blessings by Nature would be revamped in 2022, so I came up with a game plan. My biggest lesson from this is not to lose faith no matter what it is that you may be going through. My proudest moments are when my children are willing to assist me. That proves to me that their hearts are in it.

The one thing I am truly excited about is our Destination Blessings. This is where we travel to different cities and hand out blessing bags which include but are not limited to toiletry items, snacks, and drinks. So far we have serviced several different cities in TX, LA & TN. My biggest goal is for us to make it to Skid Row in Los Angeles.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had an out-of-town best friend, I would take him/her to adult skate night, which is really relaxing & enjoyable. One place that I like to just sit down & chill at is Klyde Warren Park. There is plenty of space for the kiddos to run around & they host several different events. Now when it comes to food Tacos literally make me happy. We would do a taco crawl(visiting different taco spots) for sure. Last but not least we would do a daycation to Austin. They have two food trucks that I visit every time I go there(and I go frequently). The first one is a bbq joint called Down South Texas bbq & the other is Tony’s Jamaican Food. Now his rice & peas are to die for it is so moist & packed with flavor, the plantains are cooked just right, the oxtails, the jerk chicken…whew I could go on & on. Our week of fun includes a lot of eating.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would first like to shoutout, my three children. They help mama out a lot from stuffing the blessing bags to handing out napkins & forks. My donors, without you guys we would not be able to provide for our unsheltered homeless friends. Our volunteers from cooking the meals to donating their time and assisting us. Also, my lovely board members, for listening to my crazy ideas & backing me up.
