We had the good fortune of connecting with Tammy O’Neil and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tammy, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?

I became the Family Manager at the age of 10 and continued to hone my organizational and coaching skills throughout my academic years and parlayed my talents into a career. As a socially active young person, I was always involved in organizing and leading events, coordinating, and training volunteers and learned that the key to success was creating efficient processes and communication.

Having family members with mental health issues and a sister that is deaf, I’ve always been interested in how the human mind works, processes information, and creates ideas. Originally, my plan was to become a Special Education Teacher, however; life happened, and my plans were sidelined for a while. My Business and Communications degrees prepared me for my entrepreneurial spirit, while honoring my natural God given talents for Organization and Coaching.

As a certified ADHD Coach, (ACC) Parent Trainer (CPT) Student Success Coach (CSSC) and a Professional Organizer that specializes in ADHD, Chronic Disorganization and Hoarding, I combined the best of both Coaching and Organizing and created my company, the Organizer Coach.

Can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I work with individuals, families, and small businesses to create customized solutions for an Organized lifestyle.  I like to teach my clients sustainable life skills that honor their natural brain style.  By incorporating coaching and organizing skills into the equation, my clients achieve a win-win resolution with their coaching and organizing goals.  In addition, as a Certified Downsizing Specialist (CDS), my company removes the stress of downsizing and moving by taking care of all the details – move management, space planning, packing, unpacking, and organizing so that my clients can downsize and/or move with no stress.

Please tell us more about your business. What you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today business-wise? Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way? What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
As a former director of a non-profit organization, I had many jobs, including recruiting and training volunteers, event planning, coaching and lots of organizing! Simplicity, function, and efficiency were necessary for the organization to thrive.

Becoming an entrepreneur was a natural segue for me, although, scary at the time. I learned basic operations were the best methods for me until I started to grow my business. I believe in delegating my weak business areas to other people’s strong suites. As an education advocate, I believe that knowledge is power and the more we know, the more we grow. Since I’ve always had a natural curiosity about how the brain works, I decided to pursue further education thru the National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals (NAPO), Institute for Challenging Education (ICD), International Coaching Federation (ICF) and Children and Adults with Attention Disorder Deficit (CHADD). Continuing education is important for me to provide the best service to my clients.

I’ve learned many life lessons along the way, too numerous to name all of them. However, I’m a firm believer of giving back and providing life learning opportunities. I’m blessed to volunteer with GRACE Transitional Housing teaching Organizing 101 to program participants and look forward to coaching students in the VAST after school community program. Recently, I’ve partnered with GRACE Transitional Housing and offer a Professional House Cleaning Training Program. I hire program graduates for my newly added TOC Cleaning Services.

I learned not to be afraid of failure. Failure is opportunity in disguise. If we don’t experience trials and tribulations, how do we learn and grow, personally and professionally? It’s not the failure that defines us, it’s how we manage the experience. Remember, when we possess an Attitude of Gratitude, regardless of the situation, we will never want for anything, and our life will be blessed.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, I want to recognize God as my savior and King! I’ve experienced many challenging life situations and had it not been for my faith and perseverance, I wouldn’t be alive today thriving in His kingdom!

Jim Bartlett for his unconditional love, encouragement, and support to guide me in the direction I want to be.
